    Windscreen wiper problems

    Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with the wipers on a 2004 Disco II TD5. Sometimes I turn them on and the just don't work. If I leave them in position 1 for a while they will just start after about 2-3 minutes. This only happens after the car has been sitting in a heavy downpour of rain. Does anyone know if maybe water gets into one of the componnts and causes this delay. Any ideas welcome.

By the way just new to this forum and have just bought my second Discovery after having a five year break from the last one. Managed to fine a 2004 TD5 S with only 70000km on the clock.

    Thanks

    Dave

Isn't position 1 the intermittent wipe? Pos.2 is normal speed and pos.3 is fast speed. If you are on pos.1 you vary the wipe delay by the inner twist switch beside the position switch. I'm only suggesting this as refer to being on position 1

No solution but mine (2003 td5) exhibits similar wierdness at times. never as long as two minutes more like 5 - 10 seconds, it will start to sweep and then just sort of stop and think about it. Particularly when using momentary such as using the washers and on popsition 2....strange.

Sounds fairly common. Some discussion here

My 2002 Td5 does it and now we have some rain in Melbourne I'm going to try contact cleaner. The single wipe (push stalk down) always works and I can get the other modes going by slowly twisting the switch.

Sometimes when I put my wipers on, they work fine and then when I switch them off, they keep on wiping. Very annoying when the window is dry.

Yeh, mine do this. Some times I can drive for about 10ks before they start.
I try and leave the int' set at the fast setting, as this seems to get them going sooner. Twisting the switch back and forth repetably helps when its raining heavy.
Some have suggested the switch needs cleaning, but it do'nt rain that often that I feel that motivated.

Thanks for the quick replies. I suspected that it might be a switch problem but just thought that I would ask before ripping things apart. And yes I have to agree that things do get a bit concerning when you are driving at speed, heavy rain, and your just waiting for the wipers to reply to your request to clear the screen.

Its all about having a car with character, that why I bought another Landrover.

Mine does exactly the same all the time (and has for as long as I've owned the vehicle), unless I use the wipers regularly (like on consecutive days) - and that doesn't happen too often in Kalgoorlie.

All I do is turn the switch on/off/on two or three times and they come good.

Never have a problem with flicking the switch for a single pass, but switching on to any speed, including intermittent, always gives me the same issue.

I've just put it down to the Landrover character.
    Cheers .........
