    Love the Engine Saver

    Hi all

Just thought I would share my story when a friend drove my Disco to the gold coast towing my trailer to take 5 others to the airport. When he picked up the disco I explained what the combined engine saver was and how it worked. He was 700m away from dropping them off for the early morning flight and the alarm went off. he pulled over, temp gauge was still working and only at half so he continued on.

After unloading he stopped at the servo and call me. he is not mechanical but a passer by directed him around the cornor to a mechanic. They presurise the system and tuns out the hose from the res down to the t piece had chafed on the steering rack / shaft. I had recently replaced this when I did all of my coolant hoses. Looks like I didn't fit that back correctly.

Anyway the mechanic repaired the hose with a joiner and sent him on his way.

I tell you now if it wasn't for the engine saver I would have a dead engine right now and it would be 600km away from home.

    Love the engine saver.

    Cheers

    Matt

I am happy to say that my brother and I assisted Dave with input and testing of the D2 V8 application and in doing so I have had one for a while and love it. It told me I had lost coolant before the gauge or the scangauge II had picked it up...

David is an absolute gentleman and I recommend that if you dont have one you get this unit NOW! (I have no affiliation with Dave its just its a great product that saves engines and he is a good bloke).

    Cheers

Was thinking about one of these for the 101. I understand they go in the top radiator hose and they work by the coolant completing an electrical connection that is lost if the coolant gets low.

Just how low does the coolant level have to get before it goes off. With the engine running the coolant level in the radiator would have to drop considerably before the water pump completely stops pumping coolant around - I assume while fluid is still circulating the alarm will not go off even thought fluid level is down a bit. Likewise if the coolant boils will this cause the circuit to be maintained and stop the alarm going off?

    Thanks

I have one fitted too, found my viscous fan was U/S due to it so saved me some$$$ straight away.

I have heard they "go off" if the system isn't fully bleed. Can any one back this up?

If you have the one with the heat sink(spelling) it meashures the head temprature and alert you long before the coolant boils.
    Cheers, Kyle
