    D2 Overheated

My D2 overheated today for the first time.

I was idling for about 5-10 minutes then the gauge was off the scale and steam was coming out from under the bonnet. I shut it off as soon as I noticed the steam.

I topped up the reservoir and it didnt get too hot on the way home.

It wasnt even hot weather today.

Looks like a radiator cleanout is needed.

Is there an after market rad available with bigger tubes in the core? Or would a Aussie Desert Cooler rad be available?

    James

I'd be looking at another cause, like a failed viscous hub or something. The rad MAY be blocked, but at idle it won't really cause that to happen. Airflow from the fan it idle is enough to cool it, so if the hub is freewheeling etc, it'll overheat. I guess it is a V8?

That was my pattern. Hub, thermostat, overheat in exactly the same way. Then I joined team BHG. So I bought a 4.6.

Yes, that was my next comment if it is a V8. If so, possibly a liner/ block problem anyway

Blown head gasket, common on D2's.

Also Toyota &m 6cylrngines. They had used a different alloy that if you don't run toyota red coolant only they get eaten within 6mths and you need to replace or weld the holes in the head.So common that a bunch of guys even had Team BHG tshirts made.

Discobaker - how quickly did it blow the coolant out....and did it blow more than that (ie part of the radiator volume)?

    Cheers
