D2 ES High line System HK 11 speaker Head Unit Replacement.

I thought I would post this as I found it impossible to find any info!
The dated and impossible to operate HK system including the faulty cd changer unit had to go.
After a lot of internet research on a replacement head unit for the factory Alpine unit I managed to install a Sony MEX-BT3950U blue-tooth head unit with great results

It all started when my CD changer died and wont release its hostage discs, I considered repairs or replacement. By replacing the head unit with a modern blue tooth version you end up with,
    Hands free mobile phone
    Ipod or iphone connection
    USB
    input jack 3.5mm
A fully integrated system with remote control.

I lost the use of the 6th and 7th seat audio controls and jack and the steering wheel controls but some new head units will interface.

When purchasing a New head unit ensure the unit has at least 2 channels of pre-outs (L&R front and rear) rca plug outputs as with the high line system you will only be connecting these to C0092 connector. Don't connect the new head unit speaker outputs. No additional or replacing wiring necessary. The CD changer is now unplugged and redundant, I will remove it to get at my cd's.
I purchased a Aerpro universal iso connection kit so the original loom was not altered and can be reinstated if required.

The Sony unit has 3 volt pre-outs which seems perfect and no distortion, I tried a borrowed head unit with 2 volt pre-outs which didn’t sound as good. Some head units come with 4,5 and 6 volt pre-outs these may work even better?

All 11 speakers work from the 'A' pillar high range to the tail door sub woofers. Its louder than before and sounds better so I’m happy.

Now what to do with these holes and screw heads underneath which my last D2 didnt have?

    Northampton,
With both head units, the Alpine in the ES, & the Eurovox in the rest (almost) the units are a 1 1/2 DIN fascia, but as you know a 1 DIN unit is what the body is.
The LR fascia that it sits in is the same since the release of the 94 MY update to the D1, so if you drop into your dealer/wrecker there is a piece that can be purchased that clips in to hide those holes/screws

    Cheers

Where do I get http://www.aulro.com/afvb/attachment...chmentid=42001 from?
I can't find it on the Aepro website ( Car Audio Accessories, Car Antennas, Wiring Harnesses, Rear-View Camara: AERPRO ).

Any iso harness kit (male I think) you can purchase just cut off the plug not required, sorry lost the packet but I got it at JB hifi, the RCA plugs I got from jaycar and soldered them on.

Ah ok, that's where I was lost on - I didn't realise you fitted the RCA plugs yourself to the ISO harness. I thought it was pre made unit - their are mini ISO to RCA harnesses that are pre-made and available. Cheers.

    Hi All.

Has anyone been able to retain the steering controls and rear contols and sockets with this setup?

    Cheers

you need another adaptor to keep steering wheel controls, by memory its distrubited by stinger so any Autobarn should be able to get it, I think the only other thing you need to make sure is that the aftermarket headunit you buy has a spot on the back for a wired remote control, it should look like a 3.5mm audio plug I just cant remember the colour of it though

the little 1/2 din facia you need is also available from autobarn

if you have the premium stock stereo I would advise not using the existing speaker wire in the car, I would run new stuff, a lot of the premium set ups have extra amps/ equalisers hidden in hard to reach spots, its easer to just bypass it all,

(I'm not sure if the land rover stereo does or doesn't have extra amps, just past experience)

Stinger appears to be a distributor for PAC steering wheel interfaces, so providing you get one to suit your head unit you should be ok.

Pac-audio.com Products | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future

You'll need to check out the wiring diagrams to see how the rear controls are wired up. From memory they are wired through an accessory amp and also have an additional interface with the head unit, as there needs to be a means of simultaneously using two outputs. I doubt many aftermarket head units will have that capability.

    cheers
    Paul
