D2 TD5 Dumping coolant out the bottom of the engine.

    Hi all,

I need some help here. My Td5 D2 has over recent months had a slow and irritating coolant leak that I have (stupidly) let go too long. I have not really been driving the vehicle much lately so working on it has been a low priority. However I've needed to top up the coolant several times. Recently I topped up ready to do a short trip and it took 3L. Then it ran straight out the bottom of the engine. I couldn't really see where, however it was lower right (passenger side) of the engine.

Today I got underneath and tipped some demineralised water into the reservoir. It ran out the bottom in a torrent. I managed to locate the source, but am having trouble identifying the part at fault. Its like a plug is missing or something. its a round hole that may well have had a screw in plug it it. This would explain the slow leak (loose plug) sudden torrential leak (no plug).

Here's a photo to show the source. The drip circled shows the actual hole.

I think you'll find that's the drain hole for the water pump.
    It's a throw away item.
It's driven of the back of the power steering pump.
Here is a recent thread on one that was done not long ago,

Make sure you do all the O ring that JC refers to.

Yes it will be the water pump. Mine started slooow, was hard to find where the water went , then it increased to the point where it was very visible! Replace pump and as JC says the O-Ring.

It fits between the PAS and coolant assembly bracket Item 41 and the cylinder block in the RAVE section -Engine TD5; description ; cylinder block components ; Page 141.
It does not show the O-Ring though and the whole Rave devotes little attention to the bracket that I can find apart from torque values. The 1 bolt is a (mutter mutter ) thing to get at !
    Cheers Scott

Thought I would add a pic
