Question Air conditioning compressor wiring and compatible units

This is a bit of a follow up thread from http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...te-pulley.html

Basically, I'm now looking at replacing the entire compressor.

There is a seller on eBay selling a unit < Landrover Discovery II TD5 99 04 Diesel NEW AIR Conditioning Compressor CON A C | eBay > at $346.95 with free postage! However:

**PLEASE NOTE COMPRESSOR IS SUPPLIED AS PICTURED AND DOES HAVE A DIFFERENT PLUG TO AUSSIE MODELS. THE INSTALLER WILL NEED TO FIT THE WIRING CONNECTOR FROM THE OLD COMPRESSOR, WHICH WILL INVOLVE IDENDIFYING THE POSITVE AND EARTH WIRES FROM THE OLD SYSTEM. IF ANY ASSISTANCE IS REQUIERED TO DO THIS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT US.

    Fitment Notes:

    Supplied As Pictured.
    NOT A DIRECT FITMENT
I spoke to the seller further via e-mail who has advised:

when I referred to your vehicle not being a normal vehicle - I mean in comparison to the generic Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons where information on their a/c units
was quite common knowledge and easy to locate etc. I have attached a few pics of the system in question but after contacting that supplier they did mention that this compressor does
have a different plug to the Australian models. With that said it can still be used but the installer will need to fit the wiring harness from the old compressor which basically involves
identifying the positive and earth wires from the old system. After all that I also pushed to see if a direct replacement is available but was unsuccessful.

Apologies we cannot source a direct replacement and apologies I cant provide anymore detailed info.
and provided the following pictures of the unit:

Aside from the different plug connector style on this replacement unit to that of the unit currently fitted in my vehicle, the other issue I note is that it only has a single wire to the connector, when my current unit has two wires.
I note that the replacement unit has a wire earthed onto the body. I assume this is perhaps therefore the second wire.

Current unit wiring for comparison purposes:

Anyone used one of these replacement units previously?

Any comments on the wiring differences?

Anyone able to confirm that the rest of the unit (clutch, pulley, body, etc.) is correct? It looks it to me.

    Hi,

In december last year I replaced the compressor in our 2001 TD5 disco. I ordered mine from the states from RockAuto parts.

It says it is for the V8, but it is the exact denso part number as the original in my disco. (the on listed for the TD5 has an extra fitting and is a few $ more. I used the fittings from my existing one)

Was a simple replacement job.. (one of the easier things to repair on the disco)

P.S. there is about $100 in freight. I was ordering other things as well for another car, but a damn site cheaper than in aus and I has it on my door in 1 week.

    2001 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 4.0L V8 DENSO4711360 (471-1360)A/C CompressorAU$ 216.10AU$ 0.001AU$ 216.10

Note the cut and paste from my order was a bit messy. The rock auto part number is 4711360 and if you click on the blue link above it should take you to the site....(or: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...&parttype=6628)

    Cheers

    Thanks.

When you talk about missing the fittings for the TD5 and reusing the old fittings, which part are you referring to?

Looking at their site - More Information for DENSO 4711360 - it looks correct.

In USD, they are now listed at $197.79 plus shipping costs of $128.50. That's a total of $326.29, which when you convert to Australian dollars, $370.62, is more than the cost of the local one off eBay that I have linked above.

From the us but might be worth considering if your compressor is ok apart from the clutch.

That's a great link. Also available on eBay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Land-Rover-D...item4abbd0a121

Not sure how to tell if the compressor is ok, hence why I thought to replace the whole lot.

I'm also missing the bolt that holds it all together, although I'm sure I could find out what type and size that is.
