    Installing CDL in D2

I have a D2 V8 without the CDL internals in the transfer case. I have just received from Ashcroft the missing bits including a new output housing and the operating cable.

The installation instructions on the Ashcroft site are quite simplistic, as they deal with the transfer case already removed from the vehicle.

Other sites describe the swapping of the complete output housing with a later D2a unit, but not the situation I want to undertake.

    Has anyone done this job?

    Thanks,
    Ten.

Yep but I dropped the transmission. It should be as easy with the transfer case on the vehicle though.

I had to remove the tapered bearing race and spacer/shim from the existing housing and tap it into the new output housing, I was lucky I didn't need any additional spacer/shims.

I also with my car being an 02 td5 I didn't have the wiring in the loom for the cdl light so I had to splice into the loom to get the cdl to work.

    Good luck

Thanks for that. Did you undo the output flange before or after separating the housing from the transfer case?

    Many thanks,
    Ten.

I only had to replace the cable/lever...

Got my mechanic to do it.

I didn't feel like messing it up and having to be strandard or towed. Haha

It was cheaper than expected too.

    Typical V8 sook
Looking forward to doing this myself, although same as S7000 it's only the lever I'm doing.
Perhaps 'looking forward' isn't the right phrase, looking forward to not having to crawl underneath the car with a 10mm spanner all the time

I am at the point of removing the front transfer case housing but I cannot undo the 6 x 10mm bolts holding on the hi/lo shifter housing. They are almost impossible to get to and are torqued up so tightly that one has rounded off.

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the housing with the hi/lo cover still in place?

    Many thanks,
    Ten.

Post a couple of photos of your progress. You may get a better answer.
