Mate, that is substandard !!
The dealer should come down hard on who ever they use for the tinting, every car should be treated the same, no matter what the price...
Put your foot down...
I am scheduled to pick up our new Defender on Tuesday. I have been waiting a while and have gotten impatient so I thought I would have a snoop around the dealer this afternoon.
Sure enough I found our new babyBUT I have noticed a few things are not right with some fitted accessories so I need some advice:
- The dealer advised me that I could request any trailer connection so I requested a large round 7 pin. The car as fitted has a 7 pin flat. I suspect this is the only option available; and
- I ordered window tint yet I have noted that the tint on the Safari windows does not go to the edges in the corners and that in the rear side windows, rear quarter windows, and safari windows have had bits of rubber shaved off and cut when trimming the tint with a knife
. There are bits of tint and window rubber all over the floor!
Now this is my first new car and I know it is not a Range Rover but it is still a significant investment and I must say I am not entirely impressed, particularly with the tint.
I want to maintain as good a relationship as possible with the dealership and I have been very impressed to date but I need to know the best way of approaching this. I don't want to be seen as the whinging Defender buyer and be on the receiving end of, "You bought a Defender - what do you expect?" attitude.
Am I over reacting or what should I doHere are a couple of photos of the safari windows:

You're right, irrespective of vehicle this should not happen. Ask the Dealer Principal if he would take delivery of his vehicle like that.
I don't think you're over re-acting, when you buy a new car you expect it to be perfect - and quite rightly too. However, neither of these is a big deal. Just talk to the dealer, be reasonable and ask them to fix it. No need to be a "whingeing Defender owner".
You may be better off just changing the trailer plug yourself or getting an adaptor. However if they have said you can have whatever you want you should get it - it may well be a simple stuff up on the dealers part.
The tinting is a simple fix, they just need to replace a rubber and get the tinter back to re-do that window - should be no cost to the dealer.
I doubt you'll have a problem, any reasonable dealer would fix these without argument. They could also be easily done after delivery if necessary.
Cheers,
Jon
X 2 I would tell them I want the window rubber replaced and that window redone properly. You pay good $$ for a new vehicle no matter what the type/brand and I would not accept that, that from a dealer on a new vehicle IMO is very ordinary to say the least. Your choice but I would be pointing it out to them and saying that it is terrible workmanship and I want it fixed "properly" before I accept delivery of it.

Yep, you have made a contract with the dealer and have paid big dollars for the vehicle, I would not accept delivery if you not happy with it!!![]()
I had a similar issue not long back when I got my 130 tinted. Instead of removing the rear sling window locks, they decided to tint around them, and in doing so did a half assed job at that.
I am not normally one to complain about workmanship or the like, but on this day I had just had enough of paying good money for ordinary work.
I spoke to them civilly about the issue, and it was resolved. They retinted without any extra cost.
Let them know about it. You'll kick yourself later on if you don't!
I would not accept it. They charge a fare but for tinting so I would want it done right. And don't take the rubbish that it is a curved window and that's the best way they can do it. Have heard that about a 130 rear curved window. They should get a better tinter
As for the rear plug , get them to change it. Full stop end I story. It's not what you wanted. If they won't change it take off the price for the fitting of the tow pack and then say you won't pay for it. Believe me they will change it then.
But to be honest you may find that they will fix it before you see it again. When I worked in the dealership it was the salesmanship and dealer principle to inspect every car going out to check all the bits had been done right and there was no problems. Last thing you want is to be handing over a new car to a customer and them to start kicking off in the of the showroom.
The advantage I have is being a pom. As soon as I open my mouth and they hear me talk they have this expectation that I will winge so I work on the basis that if I am not happy I might as well winge as most times they will walk away calling me a winging pom anyway :-).

You are definitely not over reacting at all.. I would say that the rear plug is an honest mistake and is easy fixed.. the tint will have to be redone. I wouldn't accept it even if I had bought a second hand car and had the dealer tint it..![]()
