    Defender Bonnet wont open ?

Hey Everyone the bonnet on my 300Tdi Defender wont open, you pull the latch and the bonnet pops up but when you flick that leaver under the front of the bonnet it still wont come up seems to be stuck by the bonnet support maybe ?
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks Adrian

its possable that someone has slammed your bonnet too hard and bent the safety catch and now its not disengaging properly OR its jagging on the side.

the other semi common cause is that the actual release mechanism is for some reason grabbing the tip of the pin that passes through the big spring loaded washer and stopping that from coming out but you usually only get that after a prang to the top of the radiator grill.

Does it stop suddenly or does it a fairly soft stop like its got something hooked up that shouldnt be?

Thanks Dave...its just grabbing on the drivers side of the bonnet, you flick the little leaver and try to lift the bonnet and the passenger side is free and you can feel the drivers side is caught and not allowing the the bonnet to lift...

Check the rubber bush (u-shaped thing) on the driver-side hinge (just below the windscreen washer nozzle).

I once had mine rotate the wrong way and it jammed the hinge.

If you undo the black plastic bit on the driver's side wing you can reach the bonnet stay. This caused mine to jame a few times until I fixed it.

    That has happened to mine.

Pull the level then move the latch.

Before the bonnet is too high push the latch from side to side as the bottonm of the stay gets caught under some pipework.

    Good luck

    Hi A,

Your Bonnet stay is getting snagged on your A/C compressor piping. Lift the bonnet as far as it will go, get someone with a torch to look in and flick the scissor shaped stay to the drivers side more to clear the pipework. After the bonnet is opened, fit more washers and the spring to the fixing end of the stay, it will stop it floating around side to side when the bonnet is shut, and will then miss the A/C pipework.
