Victorians caught speeding <10k/m over limit

    FYI,

Some might already be aware of this but for those that haven't, attached is information on speeding fines and having them reviewed and withdrawn if the circumstances are right.

-> The offence must be less than 10km/h over the limit
-> You must not have any other speeding fines (or other traffic offences such as no seat bealt) in the last 2 years

The other thing is you can also apply for multiple fines to be reviwed where they were all done on one occassion or trip such as the Geelong freeway with it's many cameras.

Just had mine reviewed and withdrawn 7 km/h over the limit!

Victoria brought in all these cameras to reduce the accident rate and road toll. However since then the accident rates and road toll has increased where most other states it has generally decreased.

Also Vic refuses to acknowledge the up to 10% error in speedos that ADRs permit and continues to book motorists who speed within 10% of the speed limit - so the speed limit could be 100, the speedo says 100 and is operating within its design parameters but the car is doing 106 and the car is booked.

All is not well in the Garden State.

Garry, as far as I am aware, car speedos can only over read by a specific % they are not allowed to under read atall.

This is certainly the case in Europe.

Catch up Garry it hasn't been the garden state for a long long time... 10 years

If anything it would be 'the dried out, shrivelled garden state' with all the water restrictions and lack of rain

It's actually "Victoria on the move" if you're wondering... to where? nobody knows... more than likely a long way backwards with this labour government.

Sorry Matt, your're wrong too! We have been "The Place to Be" since at least 2001 when I moved here. Wasn't "On the Move" a Kennett saying? Well before my time down here.

I don't know if that's completely correct, I seem to remember a recent (within 18 months) press report where the Vic Minister for Transport unwittingly admitted that the within 3Km over the limit was a myth and that in fact people didn't receive the infringement until double that. Which brings Vic in line with other states such as NSW and SA.

In favour of Victoria is the fact that they have radar speed indicators on many of their roads which tell you exactly what speed you are doing. There is one near Wodonga on the Hume Hwy and another on the Western Hwy on the way out to Ballarat. There are probably many others. Having passed one of them you should know your speedo error and drive accordingly.

What I cant abide is the NSW double demerit points for public holidays. It had a significant effect on the first public holiday where it was introduced and ever since the road toll was back to where it had been going before that one extraneous holiday. It is a failed injury reduction campaign and should be abandoned.

    Sunday, December 01, 2007.

    To Whom It May Concern:

On Thursday the 9th of November, 2007, I received a Traffic Infringement Notice 1234567890 in the mail for exceeding the speed limit by 5 kilometres per hour. I am writing to you to request a caution in relation to this matter.

I have held a Victoria Driver’s Licence since 1994. Driving is a regular part of my employment and I consistently cover well over 75,000 kilometres a year. I have not received an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit for approximately 10 years and believe that I am a conscientious and courteous road user.

I accept full responsibility for this infringement and admit to the offence without reservation. I fully support the state government’s initiatives with respect to the employment of Automatic Speed Detection Devices and the roll they play in reducing the road toll.

I request that you take time to consider my application and assess my suitability for a caution for this incident.

    Regards,

    Joe BLOGGS

Hope it helps someone ..... make sure you check out the attachment on mns488's post, it tells you if you qualify or not .....

i'm sorry, this not directed at you gary or anyone in particular, i just get annoyed at ppl that complain when they get booked for breaking the law. If you are on the road and you can't tell that your vehicle is doing 106 when all the rest of the traffic is doing 100 then really are your observation skills sufficient for you to be doing 100 anyhow ?
