it's been my experience that the windows 7 prolific driver is somewhat crap
the earlier vista driver does a much better job, most of the time.
Have got a new netbook running windows 7. I cannot get the system to recognise the USB to serial cable for the EAS Unlock. Have downloaded several hopefuls with no luck including Prolific which seems to be the main one. Anyone have a good known driver for windows 7?
Have now found one that works, dont know how to delete this post...

Gday Wayneg, don't worry about deleting post... the info is useful insofar that those of us changing to Win7 need to be aware of potential issues with the USB-Serial converter. Thanks!
The one I had on XP seemed to work when I installed it on W7.

Yes, the one I used for XP works with windows 7, the Vista and windows 7 drivers would no work. I downloaded several driver packs, including the Prolific one which should be ok as the XP one is Prolific. For some reason its no good on my machine
On closer inspection, mine is from Prolific Technology.
Looks pretty old but works on my Windows 7 laptop....

Guys,
I'm not teckie enough to understand the driver file above let alone how to use it.
In my case, to get by, I use my old Compaq and a LED monitor.
Reasons are the Compaq has a serial port but it's screen won't display all of the EAS screen.
My better laptop has USB ports only and I have a Serial/USB converter but have never got it to work.
Short story is "Anyone able to help"?
Cheers
Jeff

FYI - There is a new Prolific driver V1417 as of about May 2011 out on there website.
I just installed it no problems on my 64 bit Win 7 machine.
What I love about it is when you plug in the cable it tells you the port number it has assigned which makes it a lot easier to get comms going with the EAS Unlock.
Previously had to go scruffing around in the device manager.

I managed to get mine running on port1 so Eas just works without assigning the correct port when starting the program.
