    HCPU tub trailer

    righto its under way

i have had access to an on road camper, very basic i.e. not even tailgate yep access only by putting up the tent than raising the bed.

my next touring trip requires the need to carry 5 mountain bikes along with camping gear for 2 adults and 3 kids so i figured a 130 tub trailer will complement the 110 nicely.

draw bar/chassis - extra long to accommodate five bikes either lengthwise or cross wise and allow the back door of the fender to open while trailer is attached.

canvas - i will be using a rooftop tent on the trailer so that i can also pop it onto the roof of the fender when the trailer is not required

    suspension - 850mm leaf

axle - non-braked custom using defender stubs and hubs minus the disc

    hitch - undecided

    i have the following

    - aussie traveller deluxe RRT, picking this up at easter hopefully
    - HCPU tub this weekend
    - springs picked up today
    - axle, stubs and hubs umm i will be surprised if it arrives tomorrow
    - vin number, the easiest thing i have ever done at the QT
    - manufacturers plate $4.60

i need to knock up a bull bar tradesman style rack to cart steel home this weekend

funny thing is i could have registered the trailer this afternoon even though its not even built and i probably will sometime next week or the week after

looking at the self assessment form for trailers one could argue that a 130 tub trailer cannot be registered in qld, good thing mine is un-braked therefore it doesn't have to be inspected or need a roadworthy

will post pics along the way

biggest headache is the frame to hold five bikes apart from each other but is quick to load and unload....three different bike lengths

I am jealous Weeds....I would really like to build a 130 tub trailer to complement my 130 truck...but I built an offroad trailer (with landrover wheels) a few years ago and just can't justify having two offroad trailers....

Are you going to mount the bikes on the drawbar? Having a long drawbar helps to balance out trailer as the wheel arch is forward on the tub. Have a look at Discowhite's build up in the trailer section.

This might be of interest.... http://www.tawayama.com/gear/trailer/chuckwagon.html

Looking forward to seeing those pictures.

    Cheers

I'm watching with interest. I have a camper trailer tent that I want to put on something and this would be a good project. Just out of interest what are the dimentions of the top of the 130 tub. My tent is about 2100mm by 1300mm so might overhang a bit I would think.

    Cheers, David.

Looking forward to seeing this take shape. So do you intend to put the RTT on the trailer?

It's funny when we got the RTT I said to wife that I would prefer to have it on a purpose built trailer than having the normal camper trailer tents. A good option. Of course depending on the height of your trailer compared to the defender the awning walls may need to be adjusted or removed but you have probably already thought of that.

ok, axle and hubs picked up today

holly crap a 50mm solid square axle is heavy, anyways i had it custom made with flanges on the end to suit 110 stubs so that i could fit land rover hubs. M R were even kind enough to remove the discs for me

totally forgot i needed lock nuts and lock washers oh and wheel nuts

pics are from my phone, must drag out a camera

Hey weeds that 130 tub looks familier and that home made cover for the fuel filler pipe...( I made it )
You would now cry..... when i purchased that tub it was for the canvas hood on it and the bows.
    The tub came for free.
There was another ten tubs and bows and hoods all new sitting in a paddock that got scrapped for the alloy.
They wete removed for the RFS to fit fire fighting bodies on the rear of standard defender 130s.
That tub stayed under cover at the side of my garage for at least 10 years.
