    Hi there
I don't know much about series landy's but i have heard the 200tdi conversion works well (discovery turbo diesel engine) i'd expect it to be abit of a fiddly conversion though, if your not realy after power you might be best just fitting a standard series 111 diesel.........

Remember if you change the engine to TDi with it's regular transmission with an LT 230 or LT95 you should also change the front halfshaft spicer joints to CV type - ideally out of a Stage 1 V8.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Most of the above conversions keep the PT series t-case, so no need to touch the front axle.

If you are happy to put up with some feedback from the front on tight turns, then you can keep the UJs with a FT setup. Several models of jeep were FT 4x4 with UJs/spicer/(single)cardan joints on the front axles/halfshafts.

However, I have a complete Stage 1 front axle in my IIA. It is a worthwhile upgrade if you can get one. CVs can be fitted to a standard series axle, but some machining is required to clearance the inside of the swivel ball.

Sorry about the bumped thread, but I'm looking at converting a 109 ute to/with a largish turbo diesel and possibly an LT85 or R380 FT setup.

Should I upgrade the UJ's or stick with standard LR items? Surely a big TD will pop those on a full-time setup?

If you are driving the 109 now and not breaking UJs, then I doubt you will suddenly start breaking them when you convert to FT. Driving around on road is not very hard on the front CVs/UJs. Offroad is another matter though - especially if you do things like reverse up a steep hill with a load on.

The 200TDI makes sense, you could look into the 2.25 Diesel with a few mods if you aren't power hungry. An Izuzu 4BD1 is a good engine but not sure how well they fit in a Series. A nissan 2.8 4cyl would be another good option cause it doesn't have too much grunt to break things but is small enough to fit and quite economical. Just my 2c worth.

A 200tdi from a defender will drop straight in onto the original mounts, the disco motor will fit but you ideally need the defender manifold to go with it.

Join the The Series 2 Club Forum - Index as there is loads of info and pics on there, just don't tell them you drive a "Series III"

I'm about to embark on putting a 300tdi motor into mine but I can't decide on which gearbox to use
