    parabolics...

    Hi Guys,

Just fitted parabolics to the front of my 1981 stage 1 V8 Not sure what make, got them off Matt aka army 2a cheers Matt
The outer leaf eyelet is in contact with the underside of the chassis in the front spring hanger, the rear eye is well clear in the shackle.
    Have you experienced the same?
I am thinking to drop the front of the spring out and try to adjust it down with a v big hammer cos right now there is metal on metal contact...squeaky!
    Any ideas/comments?
    Cheers
    Dave

Some parabolics have a nylon pad spacing the outer end of the leaves - is this missing?

I doubt whether a hammer will help, as the leaf is presumably made of spring steel, and hitting it with a big hammer is likely to have no result except the hammer coming back to hit you in the face!

No pads, I will try to make some, I kind of knew the big hammer won't do a thing!
So basically it's normal for that outer leaf eye to contact the lower chassis rail?

What colour are the springs painted? (indicates brand)
Mine are blue and I just checked out the front and there is plenty of clearance. They do not have any rubber/nylon pads at the end.
Are you using poly shackle bushes or the standard vulcanised rubber/metal ones. The poly bushes being softer may give a bit and allow the spring to sit a bit higher up, thus coming closer to the top of the hanger.
If you are using poly maybe try swapping the bushes around to see if this makes any change.

    Cheers, Mick.

They are black, two leaf, with I think firm rubber bushes, The outer leaf eye is about 10mm clear all the way round of the inner one holding the bush

Looks like they haven't been rolled tightly enough.

What is the other end like? Caqn you turn that spring around?

Contrary to what JD said, if you have an anvil and a sledge hammer you could bend the eye doen, but it will be a LOT of effort, and easier to take it to a spring works.

Iam thinking of cutting off the old hangers and welding on new ones from 6x50 flatbar, I can then give myself an inch lift and get rid of the clearance issue.
The springs are the same at each end!
I reckon you're right, they have not been rolled tight enough
    Thanks for the replies

It will work better with a press. But looking at the picture, I wonder if that spring hanger has been rebuilt with a little less clearance than it should have?

I have a mate who reset all 4 of his landy spring packs himself using a sledge hammer and an anvil. He isn't built like a blacksmith either.

After doing a couple of 7.1 mm 109" rear leaves, I gave up and took them to the spring works.

And the parabolic leaves will probably be thicker again.......
