Busted fuel hose clips - TD5

    Hey All,

had a bit of a shocker today when removing the old fuel tank on my 130 TD5. Busted two of the fuel hose clips that push into the fuel pump.

Got price from LR - had heart attack.

Can anyone point me in the direction of either a replacement for the clip, a place that might have a second-hand set of the hoses from pump to filter (tried Land Vehicle Spares already) or a you-beaut modification that works?

    Cheers,

    Adam

I may have done something like you did at the fuel cooler end

I ended going to HIS Hose(same as Pertec or Enzed) and got some bits and peices.
I now go from the origional plastic fuel hose to a olived conector.
This then has a small length of high preasure/high temprature hose attached.
This is then on the cooler with 2 hose clamps.
I have then secured it due to the weight of the brass fittings.

You may be able to do somthing simmilar if you can't source some hoses.

    Cheers, Kyle.

After the avalanche of replies and a minor bout of forum rage I created a solution to my problem. The clip at the fuel pump end is an OEM only product - Pirtek and other hose-related companies cannot buy them. There is (for those interested) an adaptor available to convert the male end of the hose to a generic fitting that works on other brand fuel pumps - not any use to me though.

A fair bit of old-fashioned running around industrial estates in Hornsby led me to an engineering company (Bruntons Engineering) who could make me a copy of the clip in brass, but unfortunately did not have time to do it until next week. They put me onto a fellow that works out of his house that could do the job (PM me if you need something similar made as I'm not sure he would want me to advertise his details online).

Taking my broken clip, plus one unbroken one, he made me this (15mm longer than the original, to make up the difference in hose I would be cutting off to remove the old clip):

The coloured clip fits onto the brass section and fits into the pump thusly:

I was too busy fixing to take any more pics, but basically I cut 15mm off the end of the hose (that took the broken clip off but no more) and heated the end of the hose using boiled water. I put the brass fitting in the freezer for half and hour, sprayed some WD40 on it then fitted the brass into the hose. A small hose clamp makes sure it doesn't come off.

Note that the hose is 'strengthened' - i.e., it has a plastic liner, hence why you need to heat it up (gently) to get the fitting in. In theory when the hose cools it shrinks back around the barbs on the fitting - I'm not 100% sure that would be enough, hence the hose clamp.

So I've solved my dilemma for about 1/4 the cost of the factory hose assembly. I hope this helps someone else that is clumsy/stupid or unlucky (I was all three) enough to break the plastic clips!

    Cheers,

    Adam
