    Lokka Difflocks?

Has any one tried or can you get Lokka or Lock right diff locks for a D1?

If so are they as good as the adds say they are?

Can you fit them to the front as well as rear?

Would a Detroit be a better option? as Im not fitting an airlocker or maxi drive because im not as rich as ARB want me to be.

Why haven't don't people used these fully no brainer lockers?

I had one in the front of my jeep a year or so ago. It worked a treat. I didnt have any probs with it except jeeps dont have disengaging hubs so when on road in 2wd it clicked as it was differenting in a turn. That was a bit anoying, but I got used to it. It did help in sand however in some instances it made turning a little hard as it didnt diengage on tight corners in the sand. No biggie.

In the dirt and mud it was awsome. Climbed some gnarly tracks that I couldnt before. I wasn't and still am not flushed with cash so thats why I went for the $400 lokka. Install was about $600 though as they had to take the front axles out of the wrangler. Dont know if this is the same on the D1.

You have o take the axels out of anything to remove the diff to fit them but is a bit easier on a landy.

    Thanks for that.

I don't think they still make them for Land Rovers. When I last called (a few years ago) to enquire, they said they had some problems with their performance in Land Rovers. From what I gathered it was the constant 4WD, but I'm not sure. I was enquiring about them for the SIII and the Range Rover.

You shouldn't fit that type of "unlocking" diff centre into the front of a constant 4wd. The reason being that when you turn, the outer wheel freewheels faster (not a problem) and the inner wheel is locked to the carrier (problem). with an open diff, the outer wheel turns faster than the carrier and the inner wheel turns slower than the carrier. Spot the difference?

The inner wheel will try to rotate at a higher speed than is required for the turn and there will be very strong self centering tendancies in the steering.

I have no personal experience with them but they were certainly available for D1s about 10 years ago when I enquired about fitting them to my Disco - the installer did not recommend them for any vehicle as he indicated that he had a number of people coming back with broken diffs/lockkas - not sure of the reason. However my brother-in-law had them fitted to his hilux and he had the same issues - 3 broken diffs/lokkas and he ended up removing them and putting in airlockers as the cost was getting too high in repairs - again not sure of the reason for failures but the car did a lot of rough club work.

Hey Ray can I borrow $1500, as I only have half the $3000 for those Maxi's and I want both front and rear.

Seriously though im not wanting Maxi's or Air lockers if I can get away with it as anything that needs activating needs something to comunicate when you want them on and off.

This is where I see the problem being as I no with Murphys law that when I really need them to work I would have pulled off a line or broken a wire which stops it from working.

Im no expert but it says on their web site that the outer wheel drives on cornering on hard surfaces and only the wheel with traction will engauge when off road.

I can understand that this could make steering a bit iffy and that is why I started this thread.

I'll consider just the front maxi and maybe a LSD for the rear then. Or maybe a Detroit.
