    Which brake pads?

Called the fellas at Karcraft today to find out how much brake pads are.

Don't actually know that it's brake pads, but thought I'd find out how much first.

They reeled off a whole bunch of brands, then said most mechanics buy Lucas - $76 for the front. I asked what was the most expensive - to see what the difference was, etc. They said they had Kevlar ones for another $10, and that the Lucas ones were on the expensive side.

Any suggestions what is what in brake pads and what I should buy.

Of course, I want them to be silent, and cheap, and brake really well, and last forever.

Oh, and do I want to replace the brake fluid when I do it? Brake fluid was done about a year ago.

    Cheers
    Simon

For the TD5 at the dealer they are $170 a set. I paid $170 for front and rear Bendix brakes in Jan. The squeel like a stuck pig.

I've had a good run with Ferodo pads (not with a fender/disco though), I have found them better for noise (mid 80's RR) and pedal feel.

Did you use backing paste when you fitted them?

I run Bendix and dont hear from them ever.

I just asked the parts bloke for the softest pads that would fit.
I wish I kept the box!
Now it stops like a stoppy thing stopping really quickly

I have Bendix 4WD pads on my disco, no noise what so ever and good braking, I tow a boat regulary and have towed a heavy Offroad camper for 5000 kms on them and still going strong

I would change it, you need to open the bleeder when you retract the pistons anyway. Good maintenance to replace the fluid every 12 months or whenever the pads are replaced. Which reminds me, my Rangie is due.

Hmm.. I retracted mine by laying a wooden wire brush handle over them and attaching a G clamp; didn't crack any bleeders. Is this not a good idea?
