Use the search feature & you'll find a few threads on this.
The oil pump gear bolt can come loose & eventuually the gear falls off locking up the chain.

I wouldn't go so far to say it's a common failure but it's best to drop the sump & loctite the bolt to play it safe.

BTW, no need to shout !!

There is a lot of talk about the bolt that holds the sproket on coming loose because no loctite was used during the original build, do a search on 'oil pump bolt' on this site you will see some interesting comments.

However this may or may not be related to your problem.

I have not seen it raised here...............but I may have missed it.

look up TD5 oil pump bolt.

However I don't have much trust in the local dealer here as they told somebody here at work that work camshaft bearings were common and that was what was wrong with his and he needed a new engine. Now his engien isn't great, but some thicker oil in it and it's just fine at the moment.

When the cog comes loose it can snag up the chain, and the chain will break before the cog will.
