    101 information

    Hi all.

I stumbled across this 101 today in the Pilbara region and nearly crashed the car with excitement as its the first one that I have seen in Australia.

Luckily enough the owner came out as I was poised to take a picture and, after I introduced myself started it up and gave me the grand tour. It's a pretty tidy 101 with a stack of extras and it had been loved. Funnily enough the owner told me that he's going to put it up for sale soon. Well I couldn't believe my ears, and neither could my wife!

I wonder if you guys could answer a question or two for me about this.
The first one is about the history and I'm pretty sure it would have been an ambulance as opposed to one of the rapier units although it does have a rear winch like the rapier units. Would I be correct in this guess?
The other is the age old question of 'what's it worth'? I appreciate that it's difficult to say exactly how much it's worth but a rough guesstimate or two would be appreciated as there's not exactly many to compare price on.

All help and advice appreciated before I consider taking the plunge.

    Thanks.

If you were looking at that one, there is another one nearby. It's not for sale though.
How much is it worth is always a hard question. It depends on it's condition and what extras have been added.
Generally, you can pick them up for between $10k and $20k. There are some examples that have gone for much much more and I have met a fellow who paid $2k for his.
    What a bargain.

As Mick said it is basically worth what someone wants to pay. It is an ambulance so not Aust Army so maybe a little less desirable but if you wanted a camper then maybe more desirable.

The original 101 winch is not at the rear but mounted mid chassis on the passenger side. I didn't think that the ambos had them so if at the rear is most likely aftermarket (noting the original winch cable on Aussie GSs can go out either the front or rear).

Ambos are quite heavy and lumbering so you would need to make sure it would suit your needs before getting one.

    Cheers

    Brilliant advice guys, thanks!

Were there no Aussie ambos at all then? Could it be an import then? I'm even more intrigued now.

This one was in Point Sampson WA so there is another one nearby?

No Aussie ambos so was an import and now there are also many GS imports as well - more imports than Aussie 101s.

See this thread for another Ambo in that region http://www.aulro.com/afvb/101-forwar...ather-not.html

Thanks for the link. Very interesting

The only thing about these that the boss doesn't like is that where the kids would go on a camping trip. Four of us and two seats doesn't quite add up. I suggested fabricating two more seats behind the front seats and extending the rear to compensate. I'm not sure that she was convinced.

You could do something like this one currently for sale in the UK.

    Clicky Linky

Bloody good price for the spec.

The Nokken winch was never fitted to Ambi's as standard, but a few have been retrofitted to a couple of them. The basic installation is the same as the GS setup, but modifications have to be made to the floor on the N/S of the vehicle to get it to fit.

Wouldn't mind an ambi to build a camper, but a GS is a much better all rounder.

That is quite a nice one. A nice simple camper conversion. I like it.

Hey, Juddy, is that estimate landed, landed with import permits or landed with import permits and rego?

There was that red camper 101 up for sale a few months back. If my memory serves me right, the owner wanted about $50k for it. It was very nice. A lot of money spent on it. A AULROian from SA bought it.

    I should have bought it.

You can also add extra seats but they would have to be engineered. I think one of mine is eleven seat and another one is more.
