    101 Canvas

Hi to all. Blew the dust out of the laptop and got back online.
Anybody know what colour the Australian 101 canvas tilts were? From the photo's I've seen they weren't sand or olive drab.

Olive Drab - mine is a bit faded now so a bit lighter than the paint - but originally was a close match to the body colour.

Gidday Dave. Long time no hear.
Yes, they did appear to be a different colour. I think, as Gary suggests, they were olive drab but faded.
Are you thinking of replacing your hardtop?
Last I saw, AJ has them available off the shelf and there is that fellow in the UK that services the 101 club. All Wheel Trim Ltd. Land Rover 101FC page

Just be aware that the Brit idea of Olive Drab is different to ours - their Olive Drab is more Khaki - darker than Olive Drab.

I have one of AJ's canvas tilts still in its box.. Will take a pic when I get home so you can see the colour. The guy who makes them for him o LH does them in green.. (I believe he asked for sand but to no avail.).

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've attached a pic of my 101 in the storage yard before it was sold off. It looks to me like it had a new canvas at the time. I think this was traded when AJ made the hard top it currently has.
The colour looks a very dark sand. Could of course be bad colour balance on the photo. I'd always assumed the below production data meant Olive drab body / Sand canvas but maybe not?

    86 96200084 07 Apr 1978 23 May 1978 Olive Drab/Sand Gloss British Aerospace Dynamics Stevenage

Didn't know AJ could still get them made and was only there the other day!
I'm working on the option of putting a canvas top back on as I want to have the original look for rememberance day / ANZAC day. I also have 2 short wheel base roofs to make a short truck cab roof at some point.

The colour of the top on the 101 to the right of yours is closer to the original colour.

    An original colour tilt

Mine - a little faded but now almost the same as the relatively new olive drab paint.

My canvas was imported by the previous owner who sourced it from the mob who made them for the British army and most likely supplied to the Australian delivered 101s.
Somewhere my canvas has the UKs makers name on it and number.
Note the different colour piping..........the same as the pic in the 101 Parked at 2EME services in the above photo by Garrycol

There are a lot of features and colour that are the same as the canvas I had on the back of my defender 130 HCPU of 1994 vintage.
