I think what Mick is saying is that even though they may be the correct part number that the part may not actually be suitable for the job maybe due to an issue with the quality control process at land rover back in the 70s

this issue may not have been noticed and then in turn the aftermarket component which may have been copied from a erroneous component is also now wrong.

Seems like a LOT of people even in the UK suffer from overheating in 101s!!! would kinda make sense too.

I will dig the part number out on the new cap that's fitted to my rad. The neck is original, and the radiator runs under pressure as it should.

The last change of my radiator cap, I put a Mercedes one on as the original NRC 1970 cap was too short and the Tridon replacement I bought was too short. The did not seal at the bottom of the neck to allow the cooling system to pressurise.
The Mercedes cap allowed the system to pressurise but it did not properly seal at the top of the neck. Driving along the other day there was a little bit of coolant spitting out the top of the cap.
In the mean time, Tom had bought a new NRC 1970 and found it to be short like the one he was replacing.
Gav and I had a look at the cap Gav had. It did not give him any problems all the way to Glenleigh and back. It appeared to be sealing thus allowing the cooling system to be pressurised. It also had a very good seal at the top of the neck.
    It is a CPC 532-16.
I bought a few and Tom has bought one as well.
I'll let you know how I go.
