Yup, they're a pain in the arse to set up when they are so high.. Just getting the cover zip on and off at that height is an ordeal! The idea is great but the practical part isn't! Do you have room to set up a fold down double inside? I've made a temporary sleeping platform that sits atop the side boards on a GS and it worked a treat. Minimal setup upon arrival to camp. (Billy was always on and we were enjoying a cuppa whilst watchin others fight with their tents in the Flinders!) .
So, what's the go with the UK plate? U allowed to retain that on the front in Vic? Good to see it out and about! Lookin forward to seein it at Wombat!

My guess is too high for the authorities (or anyone apart from you) to notice.
There are quite a few old American cars getting around with American plates on. It's obviously not an issue here.

In the back of the 101 there are seats, with slats and cushions that make a double bed. Probably 2 minutes to setup! A lot quicker, easier and safer than the roof top tent.

Plus you really need 2 people to erect the tent, but only one to setup the bed.

As for the number plates - maybe because they are high OR perhaps nobody knows what they are, nobody has said anything.

The RWC didnt notice them and nor did the local copper when he was talking to me about the 101 when it was getting the RWC.

If I am asked to remove them I will - otherwise I will leave them on because they form part of the vehicles history!

Yep, that's the thing I like best about mine. We have the bed already made, so setup is putting the awning out, grabbing the chairs and table out and cracking open a beer. 5 minutes tops.

And don't forget the advantages when it's raining at the campsite when you arrive.

This sleeping platform on the GS - is this fore and aft or across. I was thinking about the same but I am just a tad too tall to sleep cross ways so was thinking about fore and aft but that is less convenient.

Fore and aft is how ours is set up. When I'm on my own, I use a single bed mattress and it gives me plenty of room down the side. When SWMBO and I go out, I drop a second section in and a queen sized mattress. Very roomy and comfortable, but you have to climb in and out of bed from the end. Not quite as convenient but still workable. Will post pics when I get a moment.

Thanks Gav - I lay my mattress down on the floor. I normally stack my gear up on the wheel arches, on top of the LPG tank and the fridge in the flat front section. The LPG tank is not as nice to cuddle up to as a good woman but is just as cold .

I was thinking of getting a draw setup put in between the wheel arches and a sideways sleeping platform on top with one of the top side panels folded horizontally to support the end of the bed - this would mean I would make up a clip-on extension to the canvas or an additional inner canvas panel on that side to make the rear cabin weather proof.
