    Cooma - Day 2

I awoke nice and early and decided to go for a walk. Here are some pics of the Land Rover display:

I know that they aren't for everyone but I would gladly drive a Velar for my daily driver, quickly followed by a Range Rover Sport...

I then headed off and had a walk around the oval. Here is a Perentie dressed up for a movie (Pacific Rim 2 from memory):

Throughout the weekend people would put their vehicles on display on the oval, leave them there for a few hours, and then return back to camp. Here is a pic from Friday:

Julia (SWMBO) and Leeanne (SWM definitely BO) had booked in a horse ride. Marcus kindly drove them off for that, and then he/I went exploring:

The girls got back from a relaxed ride and we were there to greet them:

Back at camp I went for a wander around and took a few more pictures:

I had spoken to the guys at KLR, and drooled over their various upgrades... I picked up a set of bonnet rubbers for $20 (mine were missing) and installed them back at camp:

    Cooma - Day 3

I woke up nice and early and went for another walk around camp - by now it was Saturday and there were Land Rovers EVERYWHERE.. I felt like a kid in a candy store - I couldn't take a photo of everything otherwise I would miss out on all of the fun.

I lined up at the Land Rover Experience and went for a ride in a Velar.. Hmmm - I could see myself driving one of these as a daily.

The guy that I was speaking to said that the new Defender was "going to polarise opinions" and that "the traditionalists probably won't like it" but they "had to build something commercially viable, something that the old Defender wasn't"...

The main ramp was amazing - you drove up one side and stopped, then the hydraulic arm raised the car to 48o - and then you drove down the other.. It was quite a spooky feeling:

IMG_3167 by Grey Ghost, on Flickr

Walking around I then found a twin for my "Grey Ghost":

Here are some more pictures that I took while wandering around:

I think that the showground should be renamed to "Landy Land"

The 3 chaps on the left of this picture were all American - one of them was the one that offered to buy Gromit's Series I:

    Land Rover Heaven were there:

And this 101 (also from Melbourne):

This lovely rig was camped next to us, and was also for sale...

    Cooma - Day 4

Today was our last day - we did the parade, packed-up and then headed off home.

    SWMBO:

Lining up for the parade - who's that Photo Bombing the pic!

IMG_3242 by Grey Ghost, on Flickr

Darren (in the lightweight in the left of the picture) drove from Perth across for the event, in 6 days...

The cars filtering onto the showground after the parade:

We headed home (reluctantly as I would love to have stayed for the entire day)... At 8 mile creek I pulled over because the 101's front brakes were smoking... While waiting for things to cool down I took some pics:

We found a cheap hotel in Albury - but neither car could fit in the car park!

While at the show I met Ron (the other Melbourne 101 owner) - he was a terrific chap who gave me this original document:

IMG_3268 by Grey Ghost, on Flickr

    SUMMARY

SWMBO and myself had a terrific time at the event. Met some new people, caught up with some good friends, and looked at lots and lots of lovely Land Rovers.

I didn't take a picture of every single Land Rover, or I would still be there!

I loved the Velar although it is out of my price range.

The 101 got a little hot on the way up the hill (I'm going to look into that) and got a little hot on the way down the hill (brakes)... This is the first real "mountain" trip that it's done - I think with a little work I can sort out these issues.

The Perentie didn't miss a beat.

The Land Rover community in general are a great bunch of people.

I need a holiday to rest after this adventure! Lol

Thanks to everyone for making it such a great trip.

    Cheers,
    GG.

    Small Update

    Hi All,

So - on the trip to Cooma the 101 got a little hot going up one of the long, windy stretches of road. It was the first time that I have had an issue - and I believe it was because the road was steep, windy, we were doing very slow speed (10-20 kmh), and we were stuck in a convoy - so the 101 was sucking in hot air... Anyway - off to LRA for them to have a look at it..

Here is the end result - sorry the pics aren't easy to take. There is now a secondary radiator (with it's own fan):

    And from underneath:

I think that their theory is "more surface area, more coolant flow, more cooling capacity".

I've only driven the 101 for about 45 minutes - and the temp stayed very constant (previously every hill the temp would rise and then fall going down the next hill). I will keep a very close eye on it, but other than driving back to Cooma - it's going to be hard to replicate the initial issue... Fingers crossed though - looks good.

While LRA worked on the car - the throttle jammed open because of this:

They have installed a thicker grade cable, and re-designed the bracket for the accelerator pedal - so that the cable moves up/down, instead of being pulled sideways... Sorry, forgot to take a pic!

    Cheers,
    GG.

Not trying to be negative......but the 101s cooling system should be able to handle just about anything you can throw at it as the whole vehicle was designed for hard work.
101s design mission was a gun tractor pulling 2 tonnes with a tonne on the back at low speed off road work any where in the world.
The second radiator is hiding a cooling system issue.
My 101 will pull at a constant 4000rpm with a tonne in the back and more than 2 tonnes of trailer up Camberwarra mountain( very slowly )( NSW steepest main road grade)in 35 degree heat...…..the temp may rise a bit, but never boil.
After saying that I hope it works.

No engine fan. They still say that there isn’t enough room in there. Remember this 101 weighs 3480kg wet, has an auto in it, has a bigger than standard radiator, an electric fan, (no engine fan due to space issues), a rebuilt efi v8. Being an ambulance body - I think that it’s less aerodynamic than a GS and certainly a lot heavier.

I think that it’s probably a combination of all of the above.
