Hi All,
I've been in discussion with Martin Howdle from Able Engineering in the UK. They provide spare parts for the 101 and can be found here:
Able Engineering Ltd
I have been investigating how to extend the fuel range of my 101. I considered a second tank on the passenger side of the vehicle, basically in exactly the same spot as the standard drivers side tank.
Depending on how you install the tank - you also need another pump, gauge, fuel lines, sender, etc..
There are always 101 ways to skin a cat - in the end I decided that the cheapest way for ME was to purchase a 3xJerry Can holder.
So far in my 1.5 years of 101 ownership I have not yet needed to extend my fuel range. However I will need to on the up-coming AULRO trip though.
This is the Jerry Can holder that Able Engineering are making:

It holds 3 x 20ltr Jerry Cans - plus I already have space for 2 x 20ltr Jerry Cans on the front of the 101, thus making an extra 100ltr if required..
When I get the unit - I will take some more pics, especially once it's been installed.
Cheers,
GG.

It does look good.

On my 101 extra range is achieved by the installation of a 65 litre LPG tank under the floor behind the rear diff and the muffler and exhaust system rerouted out to the side.
I usually carry two jerry cans on the extreme rear , one on each corner like a series 3 exarmy / penrentie land rover.
I can carry another jerry can of fuel on a standard single can holder on the left side beside the winch, but usually carry water there.
So I get over another hundred litres worth of range without taking any space inside the vehicle which is a normal GS soft top.
Hi Mick - Thanks for the offer, but I did want something more permanent. Hopefully once I get this outback trip done, SWMBO will enjoy more extended trips! That - or there won't be another..
Hi Cooee - I will be interested to see your pics, I know that Harry is a great fabricator. If I decide in the future that I want a second tank - I can always just unbolt the holder and sell it..
Hi Mrs HH - I may eventually go with a second tank, but I needed the Jerry Can holder quickly for this upcoming trip. And I know that Harry isn't well at the moment, so I didn't want to push things!
Hi Stuee - I will send you a PM.
Hi Ron - your set-up sounds very nice. Being an ambulance (and with 2 spare wheels on the rear) - the previous owner of my 101 has put Jerry can holders on the front... Depending on fuel requirements - I may decide to carry water in the front cans, and fuel in the side cans.. Which would mean only 60ltrs of fuel, but 40 ltrs of water.. I haven't quite decided which way to go yet!
Cheers All,
GG.

Gas or second tank... The gas setup on the Range Rover is simple, and makes it affordable. With a Jerry Can holder and 3 Jerry Cans, you are adding a lot of weight for 60 LT of fuel.. Just my thoughts tho.

Hi All,
The Jerry Can holder arrived earlier this week... I'm scratching my head a little - as when I bolt it up to the chassis (it fits perfectly in the factory holes) - it isn't going to work...
It doesn't hang down enough - I could install it but then I wouldn't be able to install any Jerry Cans..
Anyway... I need to have another look/think... I rekon that it's because I have an Ambulance and not a GS. Although I did tell the manufacturer that - as well as emailing them photos.. Lovely bit of kit.
