    Fc 101 ??

I have a couple of questions concerning 101s.

Is the chassis galvanised? If not, do they rust in the usual Landrover places.

Where is the fuel pump located and is it unique or the satndard Range Rover pump.

    Thanks

    Garry

Doesn't the 101 have an odd fuel pump in the tank or something??

Chassis do rust in the usual places as it isn't galvanised. I understand the original tanks are rust traps as well, but replacements can be bought.

    this from remlr
The "lowdown" on the 101" Forward Control:
The 101" is a very capable vehicle... they are not without their problems though. Some re-manufactured parts and sensible mods are highly effective.
    Typical problems are:
    • short life hardy-spicer prop shaft UJs owing to the excessive angles
    • rusted out fuel tank, stainless replacements available
    • in-tank fuel pump failure starting problems owing to interlinked oil pressure and fuel pump
    • marginal oil pressure and failed cam - fit later civvy pump and cam
    • excessively low gearing
Mechanically the 101 is identical to early Range Rovers and many parts are a straight swap, the engines are common to early Rover cars too. The oil pump is a perennial problem but easily solved, however, when re-building this engine or replacing the oil pump you must fill it with Vaseline, if not it will never prime, ever.

Thanks Phoenix for answering this question. I have sent the thread onto Steve (Slugbait) in Victoria as well, he may have more info.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Thanks Diana

No I don't really have anything to add. I have an aftermarket custom tank forward of the rear cross member to make room for the Gas tank. I have never had the tank off (if it an't broke don't fix it).

Slugbait, have I convinced you to Join REMLR

Or at the least would you be able to let me know what your 101's chassis number is?

My 101 still has its in tank fuel pump and it is not in use.
A normal after market one is used and is mounted on the chassis near the transfer case.
The previous owner told me the original pump still works and could be used as a back up.
