Thread: 101" special wheel nuts for front step

101 wheel nut part number is 90577473 and is not a unique 101 part - so I guess it is the same as a series 3.

The nut for the front wheel step is part number 592926 and the book does indicate it is unique to 101s (at least in 1977). I assume you appreciate the normal wheel nuts bolt onto the special step nut to hold the actual step on.

I know you have part numbers for everything so from this you should be able to work out the specific answer to the question which is most like yes - the actual nut thread is the same.

No I don't have an SIII book (or any book for that matter) at work so will have to check later when I'm home.

If I had known that the 101" used standard Range Rover classic/Series III wheel nuts then I wouldn't have had special nuts machined up. I could have gone out and bought some off a 101" ( damn )

Regarding the other 101" nuts, if the nuts for the step are anything like the ones for the SIIB it will be because they are flat both sides. I'll be using standard RRc wheel nuts, of which I have a heap.

So that now leaves me with a quandry, "what are these special nuts that are too big for the SII hubs and the wrong thread for the SIII/Stage I/101"?

The outside of a 101 wheel nut fits a disco wheel brace perfectly - just tried it. A series I wheel nut thread is too small but I did find another landie wheel nut lying around - its outside is the same as a landie 101 or disco but the thread is too small and is in fact the same as a series 1. Now I am all confused because I have about 50 disco wheel nuts somewhere and cannot find any of them and that will give the answer.

My 101 books do not list the specs of the nuts or studs except the standard nuts and studs are not unique to the 101 and came from other landy models in service in the mid 70s.

The step nuts are unique but they obviously screw onto the wheel studs and normal 101 wheel nuts screw onto them.

Don't get very confused about that. At the very end of series IIa there were 109" Land Rovers with exactly the wheel nuts you are talking about. The same 27mm socket as the Range Rover classic Disco series 1 wheelnuts (or it's AF equivalent) but 9/16" BSF thread.

Ford and Chev Blitz are 5/8 UNF and 15/16 socket, while Morris-Commercial (also 25pdr and Bofors guns!) are 5/8 BSF and 15/16 socket. Both types come in Left and Right threads. A possibility?

5/8" BSF sounds like a possibility, but do they have a wheel nut with a stud at the other end?

Well the one I think you are after does fit Series 1 studs (whatever thread they are) but the outside hexagon fits a Disco 1 wheel brace. If you want it send me a PM with an address and I will send it off - gratis - free - zip

I can supply BSF taps in 9/16" & 5/8", both right and left hand. Do not have any BSF dies over 1/2". Can supply NF taps and dies in both sizes and both hands.
