Installation Instructions: the gap between theory and application

I have spent the good part of the day installing a proprietary 36 litre water tank in the rear of the Defender behind the passenger side wheel.

    The instructions said simply:

    "...lift tank into place"...

They forgot to add undo rear exhaust bracket to lower rear silencer and wedge tank so that it is caught on the coil...apply much force and gentle persuasion with a large rubber mallet whilst cursing.

After all of that it popped into place.

The rest was a disaster. The52 mm hole I drilled for the filler in the floor is in the right place (110 mm from the rear speaker trim as instructed) but the tank is 10mm further back than the hole....and a screw driver fell into the tank...Looks like i'll have to do it all again tomorrow and go magnet fishing for a screwdriver.

Oh well I could have paid some one else to stuff it up.

    No Peter

No pics... but i can post a sound file of a string of varied and practical expletives that can be used whilst installing the aforementioned tank.

And if you listen carefully you can just hear the sound of a screwdriver hitting polypropylene....the echo is most instructive. It happens just before the OH NO words.

That would be just as useful as the instructions I worked with.

I was thinking have having them published in braille.

Both Napoleon and Adolf had master plans that involved somewhere east of Berlin beginning with M...they both failed.

Hitler used Tanks now I know why he failed.

Actually there is a plan....(my excuse for spending money and time) Sally and I will stop working long enough to see the country.

    Look on the bright side...

Imagine trying to fish out the screwdriver with a magnet if it was a metal tank

Gordon Shaw at OL had a wry smile when he handed it over...now I know why.

However the screw driver is out and the tank is back in where it should be...much easier the second time around. I had a mate come round and that made life a lot simpler.

At Gordon's suggestion I made a small hinged hatch to access the filling point through the top of the drawer unit.

Now I'm knackered.... it must be time for a glass of red.
