Rust beside door seal in car body

Hi all, just wondering how to remove that bottom rubber seal that is on the body to seal the bottom of the door.
    it is attached by rivets.
should i drill them out or use a chissel in between the body and rubber?

    thanks

I just drilled them out. Just be careful that you don't use a to big of a drill bit. I used a 4mm drill bit.

Where are you buying the new seal/metal strip from. I will be needing these shortly. Apparently the seals are placed on the doors in later models. Retrofit?

    seal

i hadn't thought of buying a new one yet. they still look good on my 93 model. was just going to pop rivet it back on after treating the rust. pity they didn't use flat headed screws... pop rivets are a pain

    ebay UK
DEFENDER REAR DOOR FLOOR SEAL WITH METAL RETAINER on eBay (end time 22-Apr-10 09:57:00 BST)

altho i like the idea of it being on the door much more. on the floor is a really dumb design, such a dirt/moisture trap! perfect for rust.
(not to mention all the wear it get's from peoples boots grinding over it when they get in/out!)

I think retrofit is a much better option. I wonder how hard/expensive it would be to move the rubber from the body to the the door?

I have bought new lower seals for all doors as kids sliding out of the door destroyed them. The ones I got from British Off Road dont have metal inserts. I am going to screw them in this time so it will be easier to replace next time.

I was just thinking the other day how good it would be to be able to buy the defender brand and produce the car with all the bugs ironed out, with all the mods and accessories included in as standard trim, no problems, the maxi drive axles and hubs, bullbars, winches, watertight seals, spotlights, roofracks, towbars, recovery points & gear, rustproofing, soundproofing, GPS, etc, etc, etc. Am I dreaming? - will it ever happen? In any 4WD? Yeah, I know everyone has different needs and wants, but there seems to be lot of mods that are common to a lot of people. IF they got onto it, it'd be a great selling point.
