Thanks gents, I'm thinking it may have to go and be replaced with a radio that has bluetooth fitted. (That's if I can hear the phone on hands free)...

Sounds like you found what you are after but please still excuse the hijack.
Has anyone tried upgrading the split speaker system? if so, much improvement?

I hate mine with a passion - very tinny, and the rear speakers crackle above about 15 on the dial.
Trouble is, to get above the whiney diff noise I need the radio on 18-20, so it's always crackly on the freeway.
It'll get replaced as soon as the problems with the car are all fixed.

We struggled to pick up the ABC on the trip up the Pacific Highway from Sydney to just north of Kempsey.
It sounded like Rice Bubbles in milk.
The iPod is played through one of those FM transmitters.
It sounds like someone crushing a bag of Corn Flakes.
We managed to pick up the BBC home service quite clearly though.

A new unit will be going in.

Puma radio
Agree with opinion that the Puma radio is basically a crystal set. In the city canyons reception is basically crap even ABC which is the strongest signal anywhere. On the road my old TD5 radio worked anywhere, city or bush and I went to plenty of the latter. OK so another few $$$s to fix what was better on the TD5. My impression is that LR went to great lengths to p$%ss off the purchaser although I have to say I will not go deaf quite as fast in the Puma compared to my TD5 or TDi 130, let alone the SIIa I used in the bush after I graduated.
By the way those fancy new 2nd row seat in the Puma wasted a lot of very useful space. Where to put my first aid kit, spare jack, HF radio???
Rock Doctor.
