PUMA - Leaky Power Steering Pump...

During a recent service my trusty mechanic discovered weeping fluid on the power steering pump and sent me off to my dealer to have it fixed. The dealer had a look at it today, and sure enough the pump needs to be replaced. So far so good...

However, apparently there IS NO SPARE POWER STEERING PUMP in this country! Delivery from the UK will take 2-3 weeks. Voicing my dissatisfaction on the matter (2nd time in 6 months that parts had to come from the UK for a warranty job) the service rep said that since this was not a common fault, LRA didn't keep spare pumps in stock.

Now I consider just about anything in a Land Rover a common fault, so, question for the experts. Is a leaky/fault power steering pump an uncommon fault or is this just typical LRA mismanagement?

Well, I've had 90% of my 07 Puma changed to a 09/10 model (just prior to Easter - new Gearbox, clutch, transfer case, rear axle and hubs ), but the power steering pump hasn't made the list. In fact, I haven't heard of this failure before so I would tend to agree that it is in fact, an uncommon problem.

Just ask the dealer to provide a RR (or Jag)!

I cannot understand what it is the problem for LR to keep one or two pumps in Oz.
Management in LR Australia is very bad

I have problems with my steering but no leaky pump...however I wouldn't expect them to pick up on that if it was.....

snap on the gearbox and trans scallops they have had my car for nearly 4 weeks..

3 weeks to take out the gearbox and trans send off for repairs..the 4th week was when I picked it up when it was ready to go and couldn't get the car in or out of 5th without a battle...so guess what the car that was ready to go and all good got 20mins down the road and went back in for another week to have the gearbox out for the second time and to be sent off to be fixed for a second time...Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

the 07's I think were just lemons......the later cars seem to be much much better! we were just the testing ground I think.

Feel sorry for the people in the uk that had the 06's

unfortunate for us it was just the right time financially for us to buy...we knew we would have issues but was on the hope because it had been out for a year already in the uk we had a start as not to much was going wrong then.

    How wrong were we

Still mine is a late 09 early 10 year now.....I'm not joking only have the props/ brakes and axles to go

    Credit where credit is due...

I'm usually quick to complain, so for a change here's a positive note!

After expressing my unhappiness about the length of time it would take to obtain a new pump, my dealer (Trivett Parramatta) have now not only obtained said pump, but today swapped it out ... which means I can now go on my Western Qld trip in a couple of weeks.

Not sure what happened behind the scenes of course, but Trivett have a new man behind their service desk, a bright young lad named George, who unlike his predecessor not only listed, but actually kept me informed about what was happening. So good on ya George!

    Happy for a change
