TD 5 02 Fender Vibrations?
Have had the 02 for about 2 weeks now.
I've noticed a couple of unusual ( to me that is ) vibrations.
First one is the power steering pump. every now and then it makes a hum or vibration on partial lock? ( Check the fluid?)
Second one is; when coasting to a stop , occassionally I will get a funny shiimmy type sensation or wobble/vibration. Sometimes it continues when stopped but not for long and it only does it during or just after coming to a stop. Doesn't do it for long but it is noticible.
I remember it being very slight when I test drove it but it seems more noticible now and not all the time. ( Oil in the ECU loom? Check under seat?)

With regards to the second item check the universal joints in the drive shafts for wear. The bearings may have gone west resulting in movement.

It's more like a rough idle after coasting to stop if I think about it which makes me think oil in the ECU loom
I'd be peeved if it was coz I payed god money for a prepurch inspection and specifically asked that very reputable Land Rover service place to check out for oil in the ECU. They did mention that it wasn't a prob in 2002 models

2002 Defenders are susceptible to oil in loom - I have had it.
As far as rough idle coming to stop off throttle, pretty normal for mine and never worried me since new. Just a couple of beats so to speak.
Power steering pump noise that is pretty standard for Defender if not LR.
Cheers

our td5 dico had oil in the loom... thats a late 2002 the deefer doesnt have it yet... but i wont hold my breath...
The oil pump bolt was also fixed by 2002 however the disco's was 'not tight' and not loctited. I guess its a bit of a lottery!
Regarding the oil in the loom... its an easy job and almost a service item. the only thing you need is patience flushing the harness out. Oh and to make sure the gasket goes back on right!
