have a look at this link Is a Rear Wheel Carrier Needed?

there's a Kaymar off a Defender on ebay at the moment starting at $300. That would be my first choice.

    Jim,

Always go a rear wheel carrier that opens with the door, otherwise you'll regret it.

Bearmach make a good one that I've had on the back of my 110 for many trouble free years and they're available through Karcraft in Silverwater, just down the road from you.

I can put my vote on the Bearmach one as well. They are advertised on the Rovacraft website too. Once fitted you can forget that it's there because it opens with the door and sits exactly where it would sit if it was door mounted. Strong too, I'm over a 100kg and I regularly stood on it to pack things around the back of the roof rack ('98 300Tdi 90).

Not sure if it will fit my Puma, otherwise I would definitely get one again as I'm on the look for something similar.

I have the Bearmach on both Defenders. The Puma (and thus single piece door) one has a different door mounting plate that doesn't require any drilling of the door it just replaces the spare wheel mounting bracket.

My Tdi one is about 5 years old and has been problem free. The one on the Puma is 2 years old (almost) and it snapped coming out of the Bungle Bungles last year. Had to get it rewelded in Kunanura.

The Kaymar is a good (expensive) unit but it is much better to have it open with the door. OL are also selling a square tube one now which looks very good.

I recently put a Bearmach carrier on my 84 County. I purchased it at the Sydney Land Rover Expo from Rovacraft for a bit around $400.
