Fitting Child restraints in Puma 130 Dual Cab Method ?

please check your local state or terriotory laws, they maybe commercial vehicles in the eyes of manufactorers, but when it come to law, each state is different and each state requires children to properly restrained to the relavent standards regardless of the vehicle they are traveling in.
as i mentioned before, in the uk and europe the method of retraining children is different to here, even if you bought a car from a different country you have to comply with the relavent standards for the state your vehicle is regeisted in.
i'll have to wait 3 months before my little bloke turns 4 then he can use a lap/sash in his booster seat.
i just googeled child resraints and it brings up all the info .

let me know how you all get on as this will be an issue with all crew cab owners with children under 7

i would think you are right, my salesman told me he would fit anchor points for me, then he said they cant and gave me address' of companies who do, now he doesn't work there anymore.....lol
had to deal with someone else when i picked up c/c on thursday
guess we're in limbo ?

At least in NSW, and I think this applies to the rest of Australia, commercial vehicles aren't required to fit child restraint anchor points.

I went through a bunch of trouble working out how to get anchor points installed on my 130.

On a Puma 130 you can probably put anchor points in the back of the rear bulkhead, mounted 100mm or less from the top of the seat, and just have a huge load-spreading piece on the outside of the cab. I didn't go with this, but it was a possibility.

Check out the thread in The Good Oil, it includes contacts from many of the restraint fitters, possibly a copy of the ADRs that apply - can't recall if I posted them, design for a bar, etc.

It is worthwhile chasing down a specialist child restraint fitter, one of the two best in NSW also converts cars for disabled access/driving - that type of service might be worth chasing up in other states.

Any non-standard anchor point will need design/approval by an approved automotive engineer, and as I was told, approval is either based on destructive testing, or making it so strong that the vehicle would be destroyed before the anchor point.

I've a work colleague with youngsters with a Mitsubishi Crew Cab.... same issue there I think...as his has a post set-up in the rear. I'll ask him about it tomorrow.

Thanks for that 1 iota dealer did not want to talk about it much he may have been concerned I was backing out of the deal truth is I want the 130 twin cab and I will find a work around. For me it's the most versatile car on the market. Enough modern stuff in the dash tough truck attributes for outback travel ability to take the family and a decent sizes tray you don't get on other dual cabs. If I just get hopefully get a puma without to many problems I will be wrapped. The 130 puma with mud rails is the best twin cab other than doing a chop and add a tray to a cruiser wagon but it's far too much $$$$. Then the only thing it would have over the puma is a bigger motor and mire cabin space, but the puma would still be better off road.

If I can sort a work around for the restraints it will be good.

Looks like I gave rambelled on I'm just excited to get my new 130 dual cab!!!!!!

i went to TL eng here in Perth, these guys have been chopping landcruisers for years and making crew cabs for the mining industry, they also do mobility conversions etc, probably the best people in the state, i was in the guys office while he was talking to the anchor point makers, its the hieght of the new seats thats the real issue, and if you look in the owners manual it says not to place child restraints over the top of the seats, the guy was also thinking of putting a bar across the back, but it has to be so big there's just no room for it with the new style of seats.
if you could get an older syle of seat which is lower, then you may not have the issue's.
and you cannot just bolt through the bulkhead and sandwich it with steel, its just not that simple with aluminium.
i didn't think it would be so difficult, but it appears to be once you start getting into all the engineering stuff that has to be certified and someone could be held liable, the guy at TL's wasn't just trying to get rid of me, i think he tried pretty hard and in the end he just said sorry, cant do anything for you.
i was pretty disapointed and my wife was hitting the roof when she found out.
but if anyone comes up with an idea that works, please let me know

not really sure i understood that pdf, but it looks like you can put a restraint anywhere in the shaded area ????;), i'm off this morning to another seatbelt place across town and see what they say or can do.

ok, well i've had a bit of a win.
went to a place called seatbelt solutions and they have what is called a ute kit , $65 plus fitting and is ok to put in defenders, so i'll make a date for the fender in a couple of weeks time when i'm back from work.
i did ask about places in the east, and littles in NSW should be able to help those folks and i think the place in vic was automotive something or other, hate when you forget names, but the item is called a UTE KIT, hope this helps those of you with crew cabs like me.
