Thread: Benefit of radiator clean

I posted separately my fuel consumption on a there and back trip Sydney to Melbourne.

One of the job’s I had done which I wasn’t going to do was a professional radiator clean. My original intention was (and did) to use a two part radiator flush and leave it at that.

Because the complete change of hoses took longer than anticipated I decided to send the radiator and intercooler out for a professional tank-off (radiator) and rod/clean.

When I picked up the radiator the bloke said the lower section of the radiator was blocked. Looked like when a coolant change was done the replacement reacted with the “new stuff” resulting in the lower section core blocking.

Anyhow with the new “cleaned” radiator the TD5 is running a good 6 to 8 degrees cooler.

Best $150 I spent.

Not a bad idea to get the engine power flushed either.

Those drop-in and run cooling flush products are dangerous! They loosen a heap of crud in the engine but it doesnt flow out. Then, when you load the thing up in the hills the heat and flow moves all the crud to the inlet side of the radiator, blocking it and overheating the engine.

Seen it far to many times...

yep, individual power flush of every seperate item on the cooling system...

and run the oat, minimum deposits.
