well i got a locker but nothing to power it
can i use just a normal air compressor, or do i hav to get a arb one????
OMGas i just posted my last they rung me to tell me there in, b4 i hung up i was there
,,
i allso got a locker air comp, 150$but i need one as i dont hav eny,,,
I thought going down the locker path ultimately led to replacing half shafts - is it not so...? Are the new Puma drivelines any more robust?
Also I hear from OL that there is a new electrically engaging difflock system coming which they believe will blow the ARB lockers away - with no need for air engagement.
Anyone heard anything? Apparently it is to be reviewed in one of the offroad mags soon.
iv considered every option, lsd, auto unlocker, trutrack, detroit, e locker, kams locker, and air,
why did i go air locker,
i wanted to have full 100% drive at the rear , but i also wanted to be able to select when i wanted the locker in, so that ruled out LSDs and unlockers/trutracks,
so it was either prolocker/ airlocker , e locker/kams, or maxi(i wish)
prolocker, are more expensive then arb and plus i was told there not realy made for landrovers,
maxi drive, all for landrover and are bullet proof but the most expensive of the lot, and very hard to come buy,
air locker, i had it with in a day and at a good discount, also very good warranty and very strong for what im doing, plus every one i no with a ARB are extremely happy, and its made in AUS,
Its called the Eaton E-Locker. There is a test of it and comparo with ARB, TJM, Detroit and Lokka in Australian 4WD Action issue 148. All faired pretty well with the Lokka the best budget and Detroit best overall for rear location. My favourite is the Detroit, because I have one. General conclusion - No worries, no fuss Detroit Locker in the rear with a manual locker (TJM, ARB or E-Locker) in the front. Detroit recommend their LSD soft locker for the front, but was this was not tested. When I bought my Detroit (about a year ago) neither TJM or Lokka made units for Landrovers.
I tend to think the opposite. A lot of damage I've seen to axles is through the wheel spinning and then gripping suddenly.
This tends to break axles pretty quickly.
Whereas with a locker the wheel that's in the air spins at the same speed as the one that's on the ground - so when it comes back down to ground there is no sudden 'shock' load through the axles. Couple this with your driving style changing with lockers - you tend to tackle obstacles a lot slower - I find that lockers look after axles better than not having them.
Cheers

iv been asked to show were my pump and switches are,
im stilll not 100% with the switches been there but well see how they go
and as for noise,, you can only just hear it running with the engine off, with the engine idling you barely notice it, very happy,
well,, got it all fitted up, and finally went for a real 4wding trip with the locker,,, and all i can say is
OMGiv always watch others make things look so easy and now finally i can do the same, what a difference it makes,, 100% worth it, cant be anymore happy
i want a front one nowbetter start saving agen
