    now the rains have come

    hello people.
Just an update on todays findings.....been raining pretty good for the last couple of days in not so sunny perth.
And I was playing catch up with a couple of jobs that I meant to do at the end of rebuilding and painting the 130.
Namely I needed to re-furb the seals in the vent flaps, as the foam had lost its ability to seal and had creased away from the corner(-so closed it was blowing a gale,) but you know how it is you flog yourself out trying to get it all done before you go back to work when you rebuild part of the landy, and the little jobs get put on the back burner.
Any way I had bought the seals and decided to do them today because it was ****ing it down and I had puddles this morning, the hardest bit is getting the set screws back into the actuator and flap because they are painful for me to do as I find it hard to articulate my right hand on fine work because of c-tunnel issues (...you can imagine the agony I was getting doing the bolting back together of the landy)
got one completed the other one needs sorting tomorrow no doubt I will spend a few hours in the rain agin then as well!!
Can I ask for you 130 ownwers to have a look at the rear bulkhead behind the seats where there is a fold (this would be where the rivets pass through the ledge under the curved windows) I found metal seam leaks today all behind the bench seat and in the door footwell (running from the rear bulkhead but) so it might be worth letting your rear seat s forward and if it ****es down like it did today see if you have a flow....I guess it isn't to terrrible because it won't rust but is heaps annoying.
It would be great if you could report back as this may be a regular 130 special.

    Regards Andy

I've got all sorts of ' sundries ' stashed back there and nothing gets wet... the dust coating proves it. Don

Yo lardy! (it's good to be able to say that without getting biffed ). I'm in the process of rebuilding a 130 dual cab (and I also own a 110 single cab - so same cab rear).

I'm trying to pick exactly which seam you found to be leaking. When I pulled the curved windows and the rear sliding window out of the 130, the panel they mount into popped inwards (so went concave) because the four cadmium plated brackets bolting it to the bulkhead weren't pulling it down enough. I thought if I just pulled them off and bent them down/together a bit it would pull the panel down onto the foam/neoprene seal to the bulkhead, thus pulling the curve out. It turns out it I also had to cut about 10mm off the thread on the top bolts because they were fouling the bottom of the bracket and actually spreading it when tighten up. The way it was meant there was potential for the foam to not be sandwiched properly between the two panels.

Also, I am now in the process of resealing the gutters, because the silastic/putty type material used had cracked over the years, meaning that water seeped through the cracks and in under the edge of the roof "sheet". It then pooled in the channel inside of the cab, to the point where the channel filled up and overflowed. With all of the interior panels in place I imagine that there was potential for the water to trickle down the inside walls of the cab and end up anywhere. I'm pretty sure this has been happening for years in my 110 and I couldn't for the life of me work out exactly where it was coming from because it looked to be coming in over the top of the bulkhead where the thick foam seal is.

Unfortunately I can't upload pictures from here.

    Rain Man.

    Thanks for the responses guys.
So have you started on the 130 Rainman?
Di you see the job I did mate ?
There appears to be a two panels that are folded at right angles behind the bench seats the water pours between these panels.
I am looking at getting some DUM DUM from the uk but think if I block the waters progress it will go else where.

I have been going (rather slowly) on the 130 since mid last year. I've just had a look at your galllery and it looks like we've been through most of the same type of thing. My firewall was just repairable in-situ (but with much cursing and swearing trying to weld the original 0.9 steel with my poor MIG skills). I've also replaced the bottoms of all of the door frames. It's about to go off to be painted. I was going to do it myself but a skilled relative has offered to do it at the right price, so I'd rather get a better job done while I'm working on other parts.

I like the colour you've chosen. The relative who's painting mine wanted to do it in chamo (because he's done a few army 110s) but I've decided to stick with the original Tdi white in the interests of practicality.

I've gone off the thread subject a bit here.......

I'll have a closer look at the top of the bulk head this week end, and maybe spray some water at it.

With regards to the paint mate the drab olive green is more pratical than Land rovers own on the basis if you wreck it in the bush you can brush it out or paint it out, with the glazed paint landy uses not so, you have to prep it all up again ..just a thought regards Andy
