    Indicator switch broken clamp

Has anyone been successful in repairing a County indicator switch where the plastic clamp has broken?
The switch itself works fine, just the clamp has broken so its loose on the steering column.

I'm tempted to try just putting a thin metal plate across the break, secured with a couple of small screws drilled/tapped into the plastic, but if there's already a tried/tested fix that works.....

Basically that is what I did, although it is so long ago (fifteen years?) I can't remember the details. (And it is still going)
