    The pain of being towed

    A sad, sad night

No photos so please say it never happened

Pulled into Dan Murphy's to grab a slab of Cooper's and walking away from the Defender I realised the key-fob was not locking the doors

Back to the Defender and tried starting it. No go and the interior lights were flashing. Not looking good at this stage.

Eventually, after a couple of calls, the Great Man Himself arrived. Ivan Clarke of Clarke Motors is not only the best mechanic between Vladisvostok and Cape Town through to the South Pole, he is also a true gentleman

Diagnostics suggested the entire Security System had shut down - most likely due to the electrical sub-station I was parked near

The dreaded tow-rope was brought out (it was raining and it was now 9.10pm). It was the low of lows, gut-wrenching, heart-breaking - the trip across to the workshop was the Journey of Hell.

The saving grace was the vehicle towing the beloved Defender - a Disco.

The Defender is a goer now - battery disconnected, join the two leads for 20 minutes and wham, bam thank you ma'am - she's a goer

Ivan Clarke to the rescue. Thanks mate

Good old Lucas 10AS alarm system strikes again
I've had to push a D1 (Same system) across a carpark away from a buildings electrical interference just to remobilise it. Shouldn't happen still in this day and age with security systems

Glad you found someone who knows what to do!

Glad it was simple and not a flat bed situation.

    Not much to it really

Positive and negative leads (read: leads NOT battery terminals) joined by a wire with an alligator clip each end.

The battery is out of the equation.

There is more to this event

One must wonder why the Emergency Key Access Code did not work - as I believe that is what the EKA is meant to solve - situations like this.

We tried the PIN number that was provided on the designated Security Code Card when I purchased the vehicle.

The SCC has the EKA, Key Code and Radio Security No. listed on it.
It also has the VIN No: of the vehicle on the Card.

Yesterday I was in the process of registering the vehicle (by phone/BPay) and as I was looking at the VIN No. on the registration papers I twigged something was amiss.

Yes sir. Absolutely correct. The bloody VIN No. on the Security Code Card was different

Rung the dealer - they were not too concerned and simply gave me the correct codes

What about the poor bugger that has my codes - I hope he is not stuck out the back of woop-woop and the damned EKA code doesn't work.
