Has anyone tested the difference with Fender TD5 economy after fitting Disco transfer case high range gears. I thought it should be better up to a certain speed? ( around 100 kph perhaps)
i do alot of town driving and a fair bit of highway, and to go get home from my work, its a 1km steep hill at 60kph. so that kills econamy, but if i try,, i can easy to 10/100, but at the moment, im geting 11-12, iv started to try and been a real eco driver,, only do 100kph, slow down using gears, all that stuff;), hardly gets to/over 3k befor a gear change,
im running 32" mtrs,
9 to 9.5l/100 km running around. slightly higher on a trip.
If doing more K's would look at the disco transfer case as an option.
Just checked. '03 Tombie chip, roof rack + solar panel + a bit of kit in the back.
Mainly highway ....... 13.9 l/100 km .... :eek::o
P'raphs I need one of those timber blocks under the loud pedal :D
I can basically never get better than about 11.8l/100 and generally run at 12.5l/100. Worst ever was at Coffs a few months back where I got 18.5l/100 average over 3 days!
I have an 06 td5 110.
Has all the extras - roof, bull, winch, batt, l/r tank, fridge, ext protection etc. I used to get average ~12l/100km. When the warranty ran out, I chipped the cpu, blanked EGR, redline air cleaner, and replaced the exhaust from the turbo back with a 3" straight through system. Now I can get ~9.4l/100km..... The 127L tank gets me 1000km with usually ~20L remaining. This is if I plod around 100km/h. I went across the nullabor recently and went up to 120 and had to fill up at 700km. Much more fun to drive though. I have to fit the bigger intercooler next and this should help even more.
granno, pardon the ignorance but what do you mean by "blanked the EGR"? How much does the chipped cpu cost? I' ve got a 300TDi so hey, I don't even know if its got a cpu!
9.4 out of a TD5 is great. Just checked my mileage again the other day from 40km Sydney and a roundabout route to Port Macquarie and averaged just a bit better than 9.5l/100km pusing the old girl as hard as I could continuously; so that's about 120kmh on the speedo being an actual speed of about 100 - 105kmh ( I reckon). One of those work zone speed traps said I was doing 52kmh when the speedo said 60kmh so its always a bit of a guesstimate. :)
cheers gerald
ps oh yeah, had the cheese cutter tyres on (7.50R16's) pumped up to 45 psi
Hi coolbigrock, not sure about the sulfur content but I understand it to be reasonably high and it you want to get low sulfur its costs extra (but that's just from a workmates advice). Same bloke told me the low sulfur diesel is generally better for the injectors, etc. Anyone got advice to the contrary?
cheers Gerald
Our ninty gets around 10ltrs/100 around town and at times I drive it like its stolen. The egr is missing in action, AT tyres, bar winch ect. On a run at 110-120 economy is about the same loaded. What I love about the TD5, it doesn't seem to care what you do or how you treat it economy suffers little.
