Puma 110 Home Made Drawer System!

Hi Povman. Thanks heaps for the design. I have blatantly stolen it. I did build mine all from 15mm ply. Comes up a treat with the carpet. Hides a multitude of woodworking sins! I got a pair of Haffle drawer slides to finish the job off nicely.

Im just about to finish my draw system. Any tips on applying the marine carpet?

It was remarkably easy to apply the carpet. I did the following:

Cut each piece with a 40mm overhang and also trimmed the corners.
Applied contact adhesive to both the ply and carpet using a paint spray gun. Needs to be quite thick. Don't bother with spray cans. I would think a paint brush would do??
Applied the carpet and smoothed out using a heavy roller. A kitchen rolling pin would do the job.
Fold the edge up and secured with staples. I used heaps.

This is a great design from Povman and I too stole it accordingly....credit where credit's due! The long section on the right is superb for keeping long tools and fishing rods in.

To apply the carpet, I cut it exactly to size and used some pretty standard carpet adhesive which I got from Bunnings. I didn't bother carpeting around the edges as the carpet I had was too bulky so I would have lost space. Instead I used some aluminium L-plate and screwed that down onto the carpet.

The final touch for me was to get some thin ply and make dividers for the drawer as I found that everything gets jumbled up too easily...but it depends what you're going to use it for

Nice job on the drawer mate. I see you used 15mm ply, I'm assuming you used that for the top as well. Do you get any flex from the top deck at the open end when you load it up or kneel on it getting gear in or out.

I'm trying to determine what might be the best thickness for an 'open' type setup with 4 wolf boxes under it. I will have a central support between the wheel boxes running front to back, but with 12mm I still get flex, hence why I'm asking about 15mm.

Hi Mick,

The 15mm seems to be fine. The longest span with open front on mine is about 700mm and I can sit on top without any issue.

Just finished mine the other week too - same design! Marine carpet, etc

Used 19mm ply which i found is good for heavy loading on top (fridge, kids, etc.), but my span was more like 600mm

Whilst i was at it I added some LED strip lighting to the inside - should make a huge difference when camped up and rummaging for the bottle-opener
