    Door Hinges

Wow what web site, and thanks to the help received from Oldbushie, Clive 22 and Nod 130, I am looking forward to fixing my hand brake chatter.
The doors an my 1998 130 have up and down movement and I intend to drill out the pin holes and replace them with some larger bright shaft for pins. Has anyone done this or better? Also my wipers no longer work on intermittent and do not come to rest at the bottom of the screen when turned off!! I recently hit a big bump and they worked again for a while so I think it is a loose connection . But where is the unit ? at the switch or the wiper motor and how do you get to it with aircon??

good to see that there is yet another 110/120/130 in the northwest...

door hinges are possibly easier to replace than repin, but even barnd new ones have some slop, so I was thinking of making up an aligning jig to have a go at repinning - but I haven't got a round tuit yet

whether they could be drilled slightly larger in situ is an interesting question - then there would be the problem of fitting/retaining a larger pin (loktite?)

hinge screws can be corroded so it's a good chance you will need in impact wrench to loosen some of them, and the corresponding nuts may need retrieving, although the ones in the A pillar are supposed to be captive

the wiper motor is behind the trim under the dash on the passenger side... I await with interest to see how members with aircon fitted respond re accessing it

I have repinned my drivers door hinges. I suggest that you consider drilling a little undersize and ream to size, leaving part of the hole unreamed in the post part to secure the pin.

The problem with your wipers will be a fault with the parking circuit. This may be either in the park switch in the wiper motor, which is as noted, in front of the LH passenger's knees, and not exactly easy to get at , or in the wiper switch, which, if it is arranged the same as in earlier Landrovers, supplies voltage for the park circuit when in the off position. Less likely is a loose connection.

From what I understand, the hinge is two parts, joined by the pin. When redrilling, make the pin an interference fit on one part to hold the pin in place, and ream the hole a little on the other hinge part so that it will pivot freely.
