    Fibreglass roof for 110.

    Hi all,

Just scored myself a fibreglass tropical roof for project FrankenRover, a 110 bitza I'm in the process of starting.

I have a Q ......... does anyone know what the cream coloured bar located above the rear door opening is for (see pics) and if it was OEM or an add-on?? It looks pretty professionally made.

    Thanks and cheers,
    Daryl.

At a guess I'd say its a bracer to help stiffen up the rear part of the roof/door area when attached to the 110. It reminds me of the bracer that the soft top 110's have which also doubled up as a grab bar to help with people mounting/dismounting out the rear of the 110's. That to was a frame brace to help stiffen the rear flap frame and also gave the fixing points to fasten the rolled rear flap to.

Looks like a high mount child restraint anchor bar to me - crab/creb bar. There are saddles with holes in them that fit over the bar for the tether straps to clip to.

I thought a 'crab bar' at first but now I'm leaning towards Gibs' suggestion. The bolts and light construction shown in the second photo don't look right for a 'crab bar' to me. Unless it was jerry built.

    Hi All,

Thanks for your replies. I wouldn't have thought it a stiffener, as it has a small amount of play, laterally, where two bolts, unsighted in pic#2, one on each side, that bolt a slightly larger diameter tube over the tube seen in pic#2, as if the thing was bolted up to the sides and then the larger bar centered, drilled and then bolted into place. In view of this, the child restraint bar sounds the more likely.
Also, would doubt the roof needs a stiffener, as the fellow that I bought it from, actually crawled all over it to demo its strength ..... I was waiting for the tell-tale cracking of gelcoat, but it never happened.

So, now I have a spare child restraint bar .... less weight for project FrankenFender!!

    Many Thanks,
    Daryl.
