    Optima / Lifeline

This one is aimed at DriveSafe.... Instead of a PM, i thought it may provide valuable answers for all.

I am just about to put an Optima "Blue Top" in my Defender as a cranking battery (for size reasons mainly), I have an SC80 and another two Lifeline's (AGM), one next to it in the battery box, and one in the cargo area. Are there any issues with mixing these different batteries? Will they all get charged properly?

Not if they are not contected together

I have a yellow top optima in my 90 as the cranking battery and an another make of deep cycle battery

But as I have a battery control system it is not a problem

Where as in my old winch challenge 90 I had the two optima's connected together which was also ok but because they were the same batteries

I run a very similar setup. Bluetop cranker and Lifeline deepcycle 2nd battery. Its been in for years and has worked perfectly. I wanted an Optima 2nd batt but they recommended a Lifeline as the 2nd because of its greater capacity for the given size.

    Big thumbs up from me.
    Cheers

Hi Lightweight, as Slunnie posted, thumbs up on your set up mate.

There is no problem with mixing different types of 12v lead acid batteries when they are wired in parallel as your will be doing.

Both charging and discharging will not cause any problems with a standard set up, the only time you really need to have similar batteries is if your planning to do some winching and you want to use more than just the cranking battery.

    Cheers, Tim.
