It had just hit 150 000 kms which I though fantastic for a 9yr old car. In all honesty I wasnt even looking. I was happy with my 97 Disco but always wanted a Defender. It was just a case of right place, right time and right car.

I went straight home to ring the bank to see if I could make it happen then made the call.

Look around and be patient, but sometimes it comes down to luck.

Good timing =Great buying well done Rocky. The one that I have seen has only done 120 but is over $21,000 and does not have any logs service history. Said that they had been lost in moving state. I believe him but its so much more reasuring if you can see the history. I hear that the 2000 td5 have plastic dowels in the head and if its been cooked could be a problem. Interested in any veiws on this.

Cant wait to hear what you end up with. One of my brothers loves my Defender and wants one but has realised his chances of getting one like mine at that price are slim to nil.

I just hope he doesnt get a troopie like he has threatened to do.

Hi mate, I know, I'm late for my post, but It's just to let u know something I discovered recently about td5 2000 which I think it's important.

Firstly it's better to tell I had a defender td5 90 pickup 2001, which I sold in 2010 with 135k, and other than a ferw minor problems, it was a swiss clock; muster cylinder and slave cylinder for the clutch is a must with def, and roughly it happens every 60k.
After I moved to Oz I bought a 110 td5 2000 (I forgot that 5 years before a buddy which races with a def told me to avoid the td5 2000), and after 1 month I had to replace the bearing of the compressor of the turbine (nothing scaring), and now, after run a pressure test, head gasket to be replaced, and I discovered (after reading hundreds of posts about the problem) that the early td5s soffer that problem at 100k cause plastic dowels of the head.
I don't know if u already experienced, I hope it will never happen to u, but in case, u'll find lots of posts about it, and 2 of them with a detailed procedure to replace it with photos.
Sorry to worry u, but I thought better u to know.
    Cheers
    David

Hello. I have a 99 130 Td5, it to has oil in the harness, injector harness replaced and monitering the ECU plug! I have also had to do the head gasket (our little 4x4 dealer friend in Nth Brisbane drilled a 2mm hole in the back of the header tank to disguise the failing gasket). It had the plastic dowels... Now has steel and a head skim. 20000km later and all still ok. Rear axle shafts and caps were excessivly worn. Now replaced (don't buy the cheap ones). Other than that I love it! All the usual quirks associated with Fender ownership. Don't be phased by Td5's. There's that much info on this site with people you will be fine!
