can you provide more info about the car to help others try and diagnose your problem
Hi All
I have a strange sound coming from the engine bay after turning off the ignition. Not sure if it is a clutch or a fan sound , but the clutch also seems to be making interesting sounds whilst going slow and changing gears. The sound is a " screech screech screech ". Any suggestions , known issues here ? Thanks

Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
Dull bird , sorry , a car description would be helpful , a 2008 SVX Puma. 23K on the clock. Just replaced Vacuum Pum under warranty Other than that and a very annoying squeak inside the cabin that cannot find the source of , it is a good vehicle and working well. Thanks again
can you record the sound perhaps?
Does it sound like this?
What is this noise?

If there is a "scratching" noise in 5 pulses after you turn the engine off it's the EGR doing it's cleaning cycle. If it sounds abnormally loud get LR to check it. (I can hear my one quite clearly when I turn the engine off in the garage). As for the squeak, have a look at this thread: Defender2 - View topic - dash rattle solved
Cheers,
As Tim suggests the EGR valve will make a noise:
from the manual:
At engine switch off the valve opens and closes several times to clear any deposits which may have accumulated during running.
A noise was apparent on mine just prior to the last service after which it is no longer audible.
It was more a knocking than a screech.

Landrover are aware of this and have a retro fit upgrade for the EGR. They should offer this at the next service.
It is exactly that sound ! This forum is with out doubt the best i have encountered , every time I have posted a question , a perfect answer is provided. So it seems an EGR replacement or retrofit is in order at the next service. This is while away , so hopefully this is not affecting the running of the car. Thanks again to all the responses . Ill report back on the squeak based on the dashboard link.
