Don't really fancy paying $700-1000 for running boards for my 93 defender. Have seen some around for other vehicles which could probably be adapted with brackets? How do they normally fit on? Are there fitting points or you have to drill under the vehicle? Anyone had any experience doing this?

I haven't had any experience with defenders, but i would assume it's generally the same as onto a disco.
The ones i've encountered connect by 3 L-brackets that bolt/screw into body underneath.
By the way, if you're not too concerned about fancy asthetics, check out ebay and the likes to see what pops up.
I got a set for my rangie that cost me 50 bucks.
they do the job. And these connected in a much different way actually. There are 2 much longer and stronger brackets that bolt into the body, but different spot. Can't remember what to call it, but much stronger in my opinion.
Let me know if you want a photo of them..?
