Rick, we are getting a bit OT, but just another note, I have a 'WA' (1998) VIN D1 in at the moment with a delaminated big end (Which was quite audible
)that actually failed and locked the engine while the owner was unloading it from the trailer
It was being driven while 'knocking' apparently, and when the noise got real bad it was trailered in. When the crank was inspected, one shell had actually slipped UNDER the other, 'wedge' locking the crank
. The crank is ruined, and the rod also. ALL other big end shells were showing delaminations. Motor was quite OK otherwise, and will get a crank, a rod, a full set of shells, a hone and re ring. Bores are immaculate and only 245K.
Thats another WA VIN Tdi for the list
