    RAC BAtteries - 2 in a deefer?

    Hi Guys

I have been reading extensively and not really found what i need to know.. so i'll ask the question here!

I have already in the defender an RAC battery which i believe to be an n70 size or thereabouts.. i also (unknowingly at the time) picked up another 2 of these (minorly damaged) batteries from a friend that works for RAC batteries, one has gone in the boat the other i was planning to put in the deefer.. they are 1000cca batteries..

Now i have seen that people have put n70's in under the passenger seat.. but having a quick look yesterday i dont see how i can fit these in without cutting the floor out? the main issue i see is that the batteries have central battery posts.. which means that they sit further above the seat box as they sit further back. (makes sense??)

Has anyone used these succesfully or can anyone recommend a 100ah battery that would fit next to one of these without getting me a smash round the head for spending so much

The current spare battery i can always put to use on the boat or as a 3rd battery in the back.

    Thanks

    Steve

If you flatten the floor with some sheet ally etc, then turn the two batteries longitudinally with the vehicle. The central posts should still clear with the most outboard battery tucking under the lip. Sheet of 1/2" conveyor rubber over the lot, squeeze the lid on and you are done! With a few spacers about the batteries the top will be so tight under the rubber you wont need clamps!

Thanks for that.. but if you mean front to back... then the terminals stick above the lid... they only just clear without raising the base! unless you mean grind the angle from the bottom of the box out (which seems an option... but a scarey one!

i was thinking of cutting the terminals down and drilling and tapping them so i could use a flat lug on them... but i'm sure the lead wouldnt hold too well

if only they had a flat bottomed battery box eh... our lives would be so much easier!

They must be a pretty tall N70 then?
In a boat I have ground the posts, drilled and tapped for an M8 316 bolt down the guts. Worked well.
