probably, but i dont think engine oil temp is as critical as the trans one.
one could be fitted but you wouldnt want the engine oil to be to cool, so i wouldnt bother.

im going to upgrade my trans cooler with something like this thermostatically controlled unit.

$350 derale trans cooler, 10''x16'' with a 10'' thermo fan.

    cheers phil

    Resurrecting this oldie....

Having spent nearly an hour yesterday trying to remove the oil filter on my defender without success, I am wondering whether this might be the go. Has anyone actually used one of these kits? or any other kit to relocate the oil filter to somewhere easier to get to?

Because I have no filter pliers or wrench and it will not budge by hand. Fat fingers and little strength probably doesn't help. I could get good grip with some sand paper, but still couldn't turn it.

The TD5 filter is dead easy to get off.

Take the turbo heat shield off & throw it away, Along with the stupid engine cover.

You can then grab the filter easily & unscrew it by hand.

I would NOT use a remote filter. Have had an catastrophic oil loss caused by one of those (in a VW) & heard about a 110 being totally destroyed by fire due to a failed oil line.

A remote bypass filter like a franz would be OK but not a remote on a full flow engine like the TD5, I don't trust them.

Might be a dodgy way of doing it but you could resort to driving a screw driver through it and turning it.
Must admit I have never had a problem with them
