    Puma Gearbox Question

    Hi all,

Been noticing recently that there is a 'grating' when upshifting from 2nd to 3rd. On a long downhill, I tested by leaving the clutch in and simulating upshifts and downshifts. There is a definite grating between the gears, particularly so between 2nd & 3rd, and less so between 4th & 6th.

Is this something I should have seen to urgently or can it wait until end of Jan for the service? Any indication of what it could be?

    thanks!

Could be clutch related as there is a few with problems surfacing, but also sounds synchro related so I would get it looked at ASAP as with most mech things the longer you leave it the more costly it gets to repair... How many KM has it done? What year is it?

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

Justin, the grating only occurs when speeds is > 40kmh, so most likely not clutch?

Its a 2010 Puma 90 with 13500km, first service is due end of Jan, I probably do about 700km a month or so.

I would then be thinking synchro issue, and get the dealer on to it immediately.

My indie took a ride with me in the landy this morning.

He says the 3rd gear is loose and sliding on the shaft, hence the big 'clunk' when I shift into 3rd. Reckons it's not the synchro nor the clutch, cos all the other gears sound find but can only be confirmed by opening the box and seeing what's going on.

Now to deal with the inept stealers at LR N1 City
